Trent Alexander-Arnold sends message to Granit Xhaka after Liverpool v Arsenal incident
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Granit Xhaka met in an exciting encounter at Anfield in the 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Arsenal
Trent Alexander-Arnold has told Granit Xhaka his focus on the Liverpool-Arsenal draw at Anfield in the Premier League on Easter Sunday “has moved the crowd”.
Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold, who helped Roberto Firmino equalize in the final minutes, admitted there was ‘nothing wrong’ with the incident and also said he was ‘disappointed’ with not winning the match against the leaders.
The hosts were two goals down after Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus gave Arsenal a two-goal lead, but Liverpool fought back through Mohamed Salah and Firmino. Salah also missed a chance to equalize earlier in the game after missing a second-half penalty.
Alexander-Arnold was asked about his meeting with Xhaka in the first 45 minutes after the Sky Sports draw
The England full-back replied: “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a bit of fire in a game like this. He knocked me off the ball, so it’s a natural reaction to do it again. He drove the crowd crazy.
On the match in general, Alexander-Arnold added: “[It was] an intense football match, [a] very good one. Both teams played very good football at times. We didn’t start the way we wanted, but we showed character. We had a great chance to win in the end but we take a point. “We lacked intensity and we weren’t compact enough as a team [in the beginning]. Towards the end of the first half we started playing the way we wanted and certainly in the second half. Against a team like that you will be penalized for not starting fast enough. “
Alexander-Arnold continued: “Every game we want three points. We are disappointed not to make it today, but there are lessons to learn.”
