Mohamed Salah takes on Arsenal after receiving Liverpool award
Liverpool top scorer Mohamed Salah hopes his performance against Arsenal can spark an end to the Premier League season.
Mohamed Salah hopes Liverpool’s performance in the draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal will give a boost to the race ahead.
The Reds star scored against Mikel Arteta’s side as he fired home to halve the deficit just before half-time. After the break, Diogo Jota was knocked down by Rob Holding, giving the Egyptian the chance to equalize from the penalty spot but he wasted his effort for the second time this season.
Liverpool moved up to eighth on that score but their share of the spoils meant Jurgen Klopp’s men couldn’t close the gap between them and the top four.
Liverpool moved up to eighth on that score but their share of the spoils meant Jurgen Klopp’s men couldn’t close the gap between them and the top four. Salah was named Standard Player of the Month for the second time this season after winning the December award. In March, he became the club’s top scorer in the Premier League, overtaking Robbie Fowler after scoring in the Manchester United defeat.
Three of the Reds’ next games will come against sides at the bottom of the Premier League table, with two coming from Anfield – Leeds United on Monday and West Ham in the penultimate game of the month.
And Salah will be hoping his positive second-half performance against the north London side can be the spark for a strong end to what has been a volatile season.
“[Arsenal] top of the table, we played a good game against them, they’re a very good team,” he told Liverpool’s official website. “But I think we dominated the game, especially in the second half, we were unlucky with a few chances.
“I hope it will give us a boost for the next games.”
On breaking Fowler’s record, he added: “It’s really good to be fair – one of the best times for me in football. I had so much fun and was so happy to break the record. It was a great day and I was so happy with the record.”
