Sadio Mane could join rival Liverpool as Jürgen Klopp has spoken out about $94m release clause for ‘target’

Media Digest: Liverpool fans were heartbroken to see a legendary striker leave Anfield last summer, but he may still be on his way to the Premier League.

Not content with having already spent a jaw-dropping sum of nearly $600m since taking over at Chelsea, owner Todd Boehly now appears to have plans to add a Liverpool legend to his already rich roster. In what will be worrying news for Reds fans, the American appears to have taken an interest in a Kop hero who has had a rocky start in the Bundesliga.

It was the end of an era when popular striker Sadio Mane left Anfield last summer, but it appears the heartbreak won’t end there for Liverpool fans as Chelsea have now shown their interest in the Senegalese star, according to Football Insiders. It would come as little surprise if the Stamford Bridge club target a new striker this summer given the lack of options in this part of the pitch. However, the Mané link might come as a shock to some given his Liverpool links.

It’s wondered if Chelsea can keep up with recent window spending in the summer, but the striker would undoubtedly represent a marquee signing. Mane obviously already has plenty of Premier League experience, having scored an impressive 120 goals for Liverpool, but it remains to be seen whether the player would look to turn the tide at the Allianz Arena instead.

Liverpool reveal defensive prodigy’s release clause

There is no doubt that Liverpool are likely to need reinforcements in central defense this summer, with the future of longtime pair Joel Matip and Nat Phillips uncertain. It would be fair to assume that Anfield’s hiring managers are weighing a range of possible options, but a deal for a Champions League wonderkid could be very attractive. According to Football Insider, the Reds have sent scouts to watch Benfica defender António Silva this season, with the 19-year-old center-back having caught the eye this term making 39 appearance for the Portuguese giants. It would be fair to suggest that it has been something of a breakout season for the three-time Portugal international, with both Manchester clubs also showing an interest in his services.

Perhaps after Liverpool pulled out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham, supporters can expect some blockbuster signings in other areas of the pitch and this would certainly be one of those. It would cost Liverpool some $96m (£77m/€87m) to prise him from the Estádio da Luz, however.
