Jamie Carragher puts Mo Salah’s performance at Liverpool into perspective following the latest record
Only the great Ian Rush has scored more goals for Liverpool in the last 50 years than current star Mohamed Salah, who has now scored 186 goals for the Merseyside club
Jamie Carragher has called Mohamed Salah a Liverpool all-time great after his exploits against Brentford on Saturday night.
Salah scored his 100th goal at Anfield to give the Reds a 1-0 win against the Bees and keep alive their slim top-four hopes. Jurgen Klopp’s side are fifth in the Premier League, just one point behind Manchester United, fourth after playing two other matches.
Salah’s goal means he now has 186 goals for Liverpool, the same number as legendary captain Steven Gerrard. Only four players have scored more goals for the club than Salah: Billy Liddell (228), Gordon Hodgson (241), Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346). Carragher told Sky Sports: “This club are very fortunate to have had some great goalscorers in the past…who have always played for the team.
“I think he’s going to be in an all-time Liverpool XI, and you could argue he’s in the top five or six players to ever play for the club, players we’ve ever seen in the history of this club.
“He deserves to be in such company. I never see him stopping until the moment he stops [playing] because you only see it in his goal today – his very real desire to step over the defender and put that ball inside. He just likes the goals we see big forwards score, and he definitely has that.”

Salah, who spent a year at Chelsea early in his career, joined Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017 for £43m. .
Yet Salah has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, European Super Cup, Club World Cup and Community Shield title since… but also score many goals. Carragher added: “It was an absolute revelation.
“When you look back on this era of Klopp, we always talk a lot about the goalkeeper [Alisson] and [Virgil] van Dijk who changed that Liverpool team. It was also Mo Salah.
“All three of these players were signed within a 12-month period. Salah arrived in the summer, Virgil van Dijk arrived in January and Alisson also arrived the following summer. These three signings are why Liverpool have been so successful under Jurgen Klopp.”
Carragher believes Salah was the ‘best signing’ of the three due to his ‘cheap’ fee. He also believes the prolific star will be remembered as one of the greatest players in Premier League history. Salah is a three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner.
Carragher said: “Not only will he be one of the greatest players to ever play for Liverpool, but I think one of the greatest players we’ve ever seen in the Premier League.”
