Liverpool transfer news as FSG set to complete crucial $87m transfer and Mohamed Salah takeover sought
Liverpool transfer news: FSG are approaching a crucial move to beat their Premier League rivals with a possible Mohamed Salah takeover in sight.
Liverpool probably expected to focus solely on the transfer market at present. Not even a month ago, it looked like the most likely outcome for the season to end on the pitch and the focus would be on quality next season.
Instead, Liverpool find themselves in an unlikely race for the top 4. While they remain underdogs, Alisson, Mohamed Salah and the rejuvenated Curtis Jones form the backbone of a six-game stretch, with Leicester being the next in line and wants him to finish the season with nine wins out of nine. This would at least give Jürgen Klopp a chance to return to the Champions League. This would in turn give Liverpool and FSG a healthier budget to work with, potentially affecting transfer plans.
But Liverpool know they can’t wait for the top four position to be settled before they start planning the transfer window as it’s a crucial summer as the club look to rebuild. Of course, several targets have already been named and the latest news suggests that FSG could be close to finalizing a deal. Meanwhile, a new name has emerged which echoes the deal which brought Salah to Anfield. Here is Liverpool.com’s verdict on the market gossip surrounding the Reds today.
Alexis MacAllister (Brighton)
Liverpool are ready to “end the race” for Alexis Mac Allister by signing a deal with Brighton.
So says the Mirror, claiming FSG are closing in on a landmark $87m (£70m) move, with the player himself set to commit to Liverpool despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal. The talks are believed to have “a long way to go”, with James Milner expected to go the other way on a free transfer.
Interestingly, Liverpool are also considered ‘favourites’ to buy Mason Mount from Chelsea, although the signing of Mauricio Pochettino could make the London outfit a more reluctant seller. Liverpool.com says: Everything seems to be moving in the right direction for a Mac Allister deal. This is great news for Liverpool, with the World Cup winner a great talent in an ideal age group.

The Mirror’s claim that Klopp sees it as “large compensation” for pulling out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham is potentially a bit worrying, but the story also says the manager is asking for three midfielders, so it looks like a little storm. in a teacup. Whether FSG can replace and surpass the impact the Borussia Dortmund star would have had through multiple additions will be a defining question for next season.
Tammy Abraham (Rome)
A young talent sold by Chelsea ends up in Rome. It’s a story that has already had a very happy ending for Liverpool.
Now FSG could be looking to stage a repeat of Salah, with Tammy Abraham the subject of eager looks from a number of clubs. According to Fichajes, six Premier League teams want to facilitate his return, including Liverpool.
In true Chelsea fashion, the Blues are linked with his return to Stamford Bridge, although it seems unlikely that former manager José Mourinho, who now manages Roma, will give him any special treatment. Manchester United, Spurs, Newcastle and Aston Villa are also mentioned. Unlike Salah’s case, Abraham had real success in the Premier League but was still pushed. While he hasn’t exploded like the Egyptian at Roma, he has certainly shown his talent and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the 25-year-old returns to these shores at some point.
Liverpool.com says: Simply keeping an eye on which players have been sacked by Chelsea is not an entirely illegitimate transfer strategy, with countless stories of regret from young and senior ranks too inflated. Especially given the current difficult situation, Abraham definitely falls into that category.
While the Salah model is tempting to follow, Abraham is on the market at the wrong time. It’s not yet 100% clear whether he would have the quality to pull it off, and he would be facing a formidable front-line for a place in Klopp’s squad.
Ultimately, Liverpool’s recruiting priorities will be elsewhere, not the least of which is getting Mount to Chelsea’s next regret, but it will be interesting to see what comes next for Abraham.
