The battle for Pichichi between Lewandowski and Benzema: this is what remains for each of them in La Liga
Spain’s top two goalscorers will compete for the prestigious award
The battle for the Pichichi Trophy has become fiercer than ever as the season draws to a close. Karim Benzema’s comeback from goal sees him close on Robert Lewandowski, who has been the all-time leader for much of the season, although his position now looks far less certain
With his goal against Real Betis, Robert Lewandowski has scored 19 goals in Liga Santander this season. The Pole scored in back-to-back matches, against Rayo and Betis, and has regained some momentum after a poor run of form in front of goal.
Benzema, meanwhile, advanced to within a goal of the Barcelona striker with his three goals against Almeria. The Frenchman has scored two hat-tricks in recent games, the first against Real Valladolid and against Rubi’s team on matchday 32 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. This attack for the Pichichi trophy sees Lewandowski compete directly with the French striker in the final weeks of the season.
