Chelsea face nine-man injury crisis in crucial game against Manchester United

Man Utd need a point from their last two Premier League games at Old Trafford to secure a place in the top four

Chelsea could be without nine first-team players against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Erik ten Hag’s side need just one point from their last two Premier League games to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Before the end of the season, they meet Chelsea and Fulham, who are out of form.

United will be looking to keep their players fit for the next FA Cup final once a place in the top four is secured. Chelsea, on the other hand, have little room to maneuver and are without several key players. Full-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell are both ruled out for this season, along with Mason Mount, Marc Cucurella and Armando Broja. Teenager Lewis Hall is likely to start on the left side of defense as he did against Manchester City.

Chelsea have problems in midfield with Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante both having serious doubts. The Croatian picked up a groin injury against Nottingham Forest and was unable to play against City, while Kante has a similar problem.

Joao Felix was initially called up to the Chelsea bench at the Etihad Stadium but was replaced by young goalkeeper Ethan Wady. It’s unclear what the Portugal international’s problem is and when he might return.

Finally, Benoit Badiashile is the latest problem to face Chelsea’s disparate defence. The Frenchman picked up a groin injury in training and is unlikely to feature at Old Trafford.
