Manchester United reach lpersonal agreements with Mason Mount
Mason Mount has become Man United’s top target in midfield as he nears the final year of his contract at Chelsea.
Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount has agreed personal terms with Manchester United.
Representatives for Mount, his father Tony and agent Neil Fewings have reportedly held advanced discussions with United, but there is still no agreement between the clubs over the fee.
Although new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has been seen as an ideal mentor for Mount, the England international is keen to leave Stamford Bridge.
United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to sign a young midfielder and Mount, 24, is out of contract at Chelsea next year. Ten Hag indicated last year that it would prefer to attract English players but admitted the valuation of some goals was too high.
“I would like to have English players because I think there is only one criterion and that is quality combined with price,” Ten Hag said in July. “It seems English players are quite expensive. There’s no denying that. In the end it’s quality that counts.”
Mount won the Champions League and Club World Cup with Chelsea and was a starter in three consecutive FA Cup final defeats between 2020 and 2022, as well as the League Cup final defeat on penalties to Liverpool last year. as
The Chelsea academy graduate started for England in the EURO final against Italy in 2021 and has 36 caps.
United have yet to end their interest in Tottenham striker Harry Kane, whose contract also expires next year, but believe he will stay with Spurs this summer.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has indicated that Kane will not be sold and United are actively considering other options.
