Man Utd’s summer fun gains momentum as two targets confirm transfer preference
Manchester United are set for a busy transfer summer with Erik ten Hag signing several deals, including Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojland
Manchester United have been told Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojland and Monaco defender Axel Disasi are both keen on a move to Old Trafford this summer.
United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen all areas of his squad this summer as the club push for the transfer of Mason Mount from Chelsea. He is aware that Chelsea are looking to sell him this summer and have expressed their preference for a move to United should that happen.
Atalanta striker Hojlund is on a list of six forwards at Old Trafford this summer, with the club prioritizing the signing of a central striker. Anthony Martial, whose future is uncertain, and Marcus Rashford, who prefers to play on the left, are the only two veteran strikers in United’s squad. The Danish international has impressed in his first season at Bergamo, having joined from Sturm Graz last summer. Although a host of clubs followed his progress, United and Real Madrid were seen as the most advanced in their interests.
United are the favorites to sign Hojlund this summer and are showing the most interest. It is believed that a bid of £43m (€50m) would be enough to land the striker. According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils are ready to officially announce their interest in the player.
Last January, Hojlund expressed his preference for a move to United: “If you ask now, I don’t want to hide the fact that I’m a huge Manchester United fan. So for me personally that would be one of the most important things, but of course that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers end up coming in.”
A report from The Athletic earlier in the week highlighted that the agency representing Ten Hag, SEG, had also brokered a deal with Hojlund – a development that could fuel Manchester United’s hopes of signing the wanted striker.
It is also known that Monaco defender and France international Disasi, who appeared in the World Cup final, also alerted United to his desire to join the club. Disasi is on United’s shortlist for defensive improvement along with Napoli defender Kim-min jae.
The South Korea international has a £43m release clause in his contract which doesn’t come into effect until July and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing him. United are looking to sign a defender this summer, but they are prioritizing signing at least one striker and a mount meaning their budget for a defender is unknown at this stage.
