Man City already have dazzling ‘long-term signing’ in place – O’Rourke

Man City will not look to sign a new right-winger in January because of their faith in Savinho, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 20-year-old’s dazzling performances have proved to City that they no longer need a new signing in his position.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been linked with a move to sign Barcelona star Raphinha after his fantastic start to the season in La Liga and the Champions League.

Raphinha has scored ten goals and provided nine assists in just 14 appearances so far this season, lifting Hansi Flick’s side to the top of the league and playing key roles in dominant victories against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

However, sources say City are happy with Savinho’s performances since his arrival from Troyes in the summer and value him as their long-term option for the position.

The winger has picked up five assists in 13 appearances across all competitions this season and has been a regular in Guardiola’s side.

City paid £30.8million to land Savinho from fellow City Football Group side Troyes, after a successful loan spell in Spain with Girona, who are also part of the CFG.

Despite the initial backlash from outside of the club for the singing given rising concerns surrounding multi-club ownership in Europe, the club remain delighted with their investment.

He has quickly established himself as a key player under Guardiola, with his skill and pace out wide providing a new dimension to the attacking line.

As a result of those performances, City are set to turn their attention away from strengthening the right-wing position and will focus on other areas of their squad.

Raphinha, meanwhile, has been linked with a return to England with the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool also keeping tabs on his progress.

However, after a fantastic start to the season, sources say he is expected to remain at Barcelona.
