Detroit Lions Attempt Bold Trick Play Involving Penei Sewell
During the first quarter of the Detroit Lions’ Thanksgiving Day game against the Chicago Bears, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson called for a daring trick play that nearly stunned Ford Field. The play was a reverse flea-flicker designed to allow Penei Sewell, the Lions’ athletic and versatile right tackle, to throw a touchdown pass.
Although the play didn’t unfold as intended, with Sewell unable to find an open receiver and ultimately deciding to run instead of throw, his unexpected agility and power were on full display. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 335 pounds, Sewell barreled through the Bears’ defense, showcasing impressive athleticism as he gained valuable yardage. While the trick play didn’t result in a touchdown, Sewell’s performance highlighted the unique versatility of the Lions’ offensive line under head coach Dan Campbell.
