Sam Greer, the highly touted offensive tackle from Illinois, has been making waves in the college football recruiting scene with his impressive skills on the field and his intriguing personal life. In a recent interview, Greer opened up about his relationship with Ohio State head coach Justin Frye, his recent visit to Columbus, and other topics.
Greer, a 6’5″ 275-pound tackle from Bloomington, Illinois, has been a top target for several major programs, including Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame. Despite being one of the most coveted prospects in the country, Greer remains humble and grounded, crediting his parents and family for his success.
“I’m just grateful for everything my parents have done for me,” Greer said. “They’ve been there for me every step of the way, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
Greer’s relationship with Frye has been a topic of interest among college football fans and analysts. The two have been in close contact since Frye took over as Ohio State’s head coach in December 2021. Greer has been vocal about his admiration for Frye’s coaching style and the Buckeyes’ program as a whole.
“Coach Frye is an amazing guy,” Greer said. “He’s got a great sense of humor, and he’s always looking out for his players. He’s got a real passion for the game, and that’s something that I think is contagious.”
Greer recently took an official visit to Ohio State, where he spent several days getting a feel for the campus and the program. During his visit, he had the opportunity to meet with Frye and other members of the coaching staff.
“It was an amazing experience,” Greer said. “I got to meet all the coaches, and we talked about everything from football to academics. They really emphasized the importance of being a student-athlete at Ohio State, and that meant a lot to me.”
Despite being one of the top prospects in the country, Greer is still weighing his options and considering several different programs. When asked about his recruitment process, he expressed relief that it’s finally starting to slow down.
“It’s been a lot to handle,” Greer said. “I’m just glad that it’s almost over. I’ve got a few more visits lined up, but after that, I’ll make my decision and move forward.”
In addition to Ohio State, Greer has also been considering Michigan and Notre Dame. While he hasn’t ruled out any of these programs just yet, he did express a certain level of comfort with the Buckeyes’ program.
“Ohio State is definitely high on my list,” Greer said. “I love the atmosphere at Ohio Stadium, and I think Coach Frye is building something special there.”
When asked about what factors will ultimately influence his decision, Greer emphasized the importance of relationships and academics.
“For me, it’s all about relationships,” Greer said. “I want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable with the coaches and players. And academically, I want to go somewhere that will challenge me and prepare me for life after football.”
With his recruitment process nearing its conclusion, Sam Greer is poised to make a major decision that will impact his future in college football. As one of the top prospects in the country, he’ll undoubtedly be a key player for whatever program he chooses to attend.
