All Fingers Point to one man if Vladimir Guerrero Jr.  Leaves Toronto Blue Jays

Negotiations for a contract extension between the Toronto Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are still ongoing, but they are not progressing well, and Ross Atkins might lead the team to lose him.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stated in a recent interview that he would immediately sign a contract extension with the Blue Jays, but that it must be the proper offer, and they haven’t done so yet.

Ross Atkins could lead to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. going somewhere else

Before Juan Soto signed his historic contract, the Blue Jays offered Guerrero an offer of $340 million, which he turned down since it appears he wants far more money.

Guerrero has told the Blue Jays exactly how much he wants, which he confirmed in a recent interview, but almost a week has now gone by and the Blue Jays have yet to make him a real offer for the amount he is looking for.

Furthermore, Guerrero Jr. has said that he’s given the Blue Jays an exact dollar figure that he wants, and if the team hits it, he’s ready to sign immediately. -Farkas

While the exact number Guerrero wants has yet to be announced, most believe it is just over $500 million after Soto and Ohtani signed for $700 million, it is fair to assume Guerrero wants at least $500 million as he will get that next free agency if he waits.

Of course, we don’t know what the dollar figure is, but it’s fair to assume it’s greater than $500 million. After seeing Juan Soto ($765 million) and Shohei Ohtani ($700 million) sign for huge deals, Guerrero Jr. likely sees himself in a similarly-expensive ballpark. After all, he’ll only be 26 years old when he hits free agency and he’ll be heading into his age 27 season. -Farkas

This will all end up falling on Ross Atkins if they don’t close the deal because he knows what it takes to keep Guerrero happy and in Toronto but continues to think that he knows better and that he could sign Guerrero on a cheaper deal.
