Joel Klatt Names College Football QB Who Turned Into ‘Superman’ on Saturday

Joel Klatt watched the first round of the College Football Playoff and had some takeaways from the action. The second game on Saturday involved the No. 12 Clemson Tigers and No. 5 Texas in Austin. The first quarter was close, but then the Longhorns pulled away in the second and went into halftime with a 28-10 lead.

In the third quarter, Texas was held to a field, and Clemson slowly started making a comeback, thanks to quarterback Cade Klubnik. Clemson scored one touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth to make it 31-24 Texas.

On Monday’s edition of “The Joel Klatt Show,” Klatt was impressed with Klubnik and said the Clemson star turned into “Superman” during the game.

“Cade Klubnik is the only reason Clemson is in that game,” Klatt said. “Of all the road teams, Clemson gave the best performance. Part because of their entire program and everybody.

Yes, everybody has a role in that. But mainly, it’s about the quarterbacks. If you can’t run the football, your quarterback has to be Superman.

Clemson could not run the football, and Klubnik basically did turn into Superman.”

The Longhorns eventually made it a 14-point game after a 77-yard touchdown from running back Jadon Blue.

Clemson turned it over on downs on consecutive offensive possessions before Texas ran out the clock and won 38-24. Klubnik finished the game with 336 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

He set career highs in his second season starting for Clemson, with 3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions. Klubnik’s touchdown numbers led the ACC this season.

The Clemson quarterback was a former five-star prospect in the 2022 class out of Westlake in Austin, Texas.

He was the top quarterback in the On3 Industry Rankings. Klubnik and Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers played each other in high school.

Ewers attended Southlake Carroll in Southlake, Texas.

Saturday was the first time Ewers and Klubnik had played since the 2021 6A Division II State Championship Game. Klubnik’s team beat Ewers’ 52-34. With the loss, Clemson’s season is over, while Texas will face No. 4 Arizona State on New Year’s Day.
