JUST IN: Boston Red Sox Officially Make Triston Casas Trade Announcement

The Boston Red Sox face a busy offseason ahead. After finishing last season with a .500 record at 81-81 and missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year, the team recognizes the need to bolster their roster to remain competitive.

Last season, the Red Sox had to watch their division rivals, the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, secure playoff spots, adding pressure to turn things around. Fans in Boston are eager for a return to a winning culture, and the offseason rumor mill is buzzing with speculation.

Although they missed out on Teoscar Hernández, the Red Sox are reportedly targeting two-time All-Star sluggers to strengthen their lineup. Amid the swirling rumors, Craig Breslow recently provided an update on Triston Casas.

Red Sox News: Boston Reportedly Not Shopping Triston Casas

Breslow stated that the Red Sox are “not shopping” Triston Casas, despite his name being mentioned in various trade proposals this offseason.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Boston reportedly included Casas and Masataka Yoshida in a potential trade offer to acquire Seattle right-hander Luis Castillo. While Casas is projected to be the team’s long-term first baseman, he was still a topic of trade discussions.

The 24-year-old missed significant time last season due to a rib injury but managed to play in 63 games for Boston. He finished the 2023 season with a .241/.337/.462 slash line, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 32 runs.

The Red Sox are aware they need to bolster their lineup and add another right-handed hitter. Trading Casas would create yet another void that the team would need to address.

After the season, Breslow indicated that Boston intends to take an aggressive approach this offseason to improve the roster. The era of solely relying on homegrown talent is over, and the Red Sox must make impactful moves before the 2025 season to avoid missing the playoffs again.
