‘Staying in Texas!’ 4-Star Edge Rusher Smith Orogbo Commits to Longhorns For 2025 season!!

The 2025 recruiting class for the Texas Longhorns is starting to take shape. As of Monday, the Longhorns had signed three commitments in June alone, and seven since the beginning of May.

They gained another on July 1st when Smith Orogbo, a four-star defensive end/edge rusher from Houston, Texas, committed to the program. Orogbo informed Hayes Fawcett of On3 that “we are staying in Texas.”

Orogbo chose the Horns over Washington, Texas Tech, SMU, Houston, and Oklahoma. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, which is a compilation of the rankings from the four main recruiting services, Orogbo is currently ranked as the No. 13 edge rusher, the No. 16 player in the state of Texas, and the No. 95 overall player in the country.

Over the weekend of June 14, Texas hosted Orogbo, who has a compelling case to be named to the 6A First Team All-District Defensive End. On June 21, Orogbo made his last formal trip to Oklahoma, but the Horns were finally able to hold serve and get his pledge. Additionally, he paid formal visits to SMU on May 17, Texas Tech on June 7, and Washington on May 31.

Orogbo concluded his junior season with 73 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles. He was 6′ 4 and weighed 220 pounds. Alongside four-star defensive tackle Brandon Brown, Orogbo is now the third overall defensive lineman and the second edge rusher to join the Longhorns in the 2025 class, after Lance Jackson.
