Bregman Sweepstakes Heats Up as Red Sox Contend with Cubs, Additional Teams
Bregman’s Services in High Demand as Red Sox Battle Cubs, Other Contenders for His Signature
Post Malone, now a country superstar, was still a rapper the last time the Boston Red Sox won the World Series. In 2018, Boston defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers to capture the championship.
For Red Sox fans, who have enjoyed consistent success since 2004, six years without a title feels like an eternity.
To make matters worse, the rival New York Yankees returned to the Fall Classic in 2024.
If the Red Sox want to return to contention in 2025, they must make a bold move. That starts with signing Alex Bregman.
The two-time World Series champion is one of baseball’s most accomplished third basemen and remains a top free agent this offseason.
The Houston Astros have reportedly offered Bregman a six-year, $156 million deal, but he has yet to accept, signaling potential dissatisfaction with the offer.
Boston has been heavily linked to Bregman, with manager Alex Cora publicly praising him multiple times.
However, the Red Sox have yet to match Houston’s six-year offer. While some reports suggest that the Astros still have the upper hand, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale indicated that Boston remains a co-favorite alongside the Detroit Tigers.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs are also in the mix, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, making the competition fierce.
If the Red Sox genuinely want to reestablish themselves as contenders, they must go all-in on Bregman.
His bat and defensive prowess would significantly boost their lineup, and his championship pedigree could help lead a young roster back to the postseason.
Boston cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. If they want to compete in 2025, they must seriously push Bregman to Fenway Park.
