Red Sox Plan to Develop Recent Draft Pick as Two-Way Player, Following Shohei Ohtani’s Footsteps

While the past few seasons haven’t gone as planned for the Boston Red Sox, there’s plenty of reason for optimism.

The Red Sox have made impressive moves this winter and have a slew of young talent in their farm system.

That includes 2024 eighth-round pick Conrad Cason. Cason is an intriguing player and was considered a steal in the eighth round. Ranked as a top 20 high school player in the 2024 class, he signed with Boston instead of going to Mississippi State.

He was electric all around, showing off a mid 90s fastball and decent power for his age.

Cason didn’t appear in a minor league game after the draft.

Heading into the campaign, he’s ready to go, and the Red Sox have big plans for him.

“Our plan of attack is to develop him as a two-way player,” senior Brian Abraham said on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast. “Obviously unique, there are not a lot of them – the ones that are usually around are the best ones.”

A comparison to Shohei Ohtani would be unfair, but that’s the plan Boston has him on.

Abraham added that there are “no comparisons” to Ohtani, but they want to see him work on both sides of the baseball.

Even if he doesn’t become Ohtani, having a two-way player would be electric to watch at Fenway.
