Aidan Hutchinson Implies Ohio State’s Title Win is Marred by Controversy, Deserving of an Asterisk
Ohio State football won a national championship, beating some of the best teams in the country en route to reigning supreme. No one in Columbus would have rather them beat Michigan and had a first-round exit in the College Football Playoff — well except the unreasonable. At the very least, the majority of fans would rather see this team conquer the college football ranks.
While losing to the Wolverines at home as a massive favorite will haunt the Buckeyes until they get to face Michigan next season, there’s no doubt that fans were thrilled about how the season ended. Beating teams like Oregon and Texas more than made up for that disappointment, especially for Jack Sawyer, who had the play of the game against the Longhorns.
However, don’t tell former Michigan defensive end and current Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson that, as he thinks there should be an asterisk for winning the championship but losing to your rival. Here’s a clip from Rivals of the defensive end answering the question.
Hutchinson, who had an elite career at Michigan, ended with a conference-high 14 sacks in 2021 and was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
That said, the Buckeyes have had quite the offseason as well, promoting Brian Hartline, extending Ryan Day and losing both Jim Knowles and Chip Kelly. Let’s just say it doesn’t seem many are still focused on what happened a few months ago when this team was able to raise a trophy between now and then.
With Jeremiah Smith and a slew of talented returning players also on the defensive side of the ball, Ohio State should be expected to again be among the favorites to win the College Football Playoff national championship next season as well.
