Breaking: “Yankees’ Former Top Prospect on the Trade Block: Is This the End of His Bronx Journey?”

Oswalda Peraza, once the New York Yankees’ top prospect, has been identified as a potential trade candidate after failing to meet expectations. As he enters a pivotal spring training, FanSided MLB analyst Rucker Haringey highlighted him as one of the Yankees’ most valuable trade assets.

Peraza, who is out of minor league options, faces a critical spring training that could determine his future with the team. Haringey noted that Peraza’s struggle to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster increases the likelihood of him being traded before the season begins. Although he may no longer be considered an elite prospect, Peraza remains a solid defensive player capable of covering multiple infield positions. A team in need of a shortstop might see potential in giving him regular playing time to revive his career.

At 24 years old, Peraza has struggled at the plate, hitting just .200 in 10 at-bats with the Yankees last season and .216 with 4 home runs and 17 RBIs over 74 at-bats in his MLB career. With Anthony Volpe firmly positioned at shortstop and Jazz Chisholm Jr. likely taking over at second base, Peraza faces an uphill battle to become an everyday player.

Haringey believes the Yankees would likely receive only a mid-tier prospect in return for Peraza, especially if he doesn’t perform well enough in spring training to secure a roster spot. If he fails to make the team, he could be claimed off waivers, leaving the Yankees with little leverage in trade negotiations. However, if Peraza shows promise during spring training, the Yankees might be able to negotiate a better deal.

Peraza, who signed with the Yankees as an international free agent in 2016, could see his time with the team come to a disappointing end if he’s traded for minimal return. Still, Haringey argues that acquiring a mid-tier prospect would be a better outcome than losing him for nothing.

Meanwhile, Yankees GM Brian Cashman remains optimistic about the team’s chances in the upcoming season. Despite losing Juan Soto, the Yankees have bolstered their roster with key additions like Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt. Cashman emphasized the team’s goal of winning the AL East and making another World Series run, acknowledging the challenges posed by strong competitors like the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees currently hold the third-best odds to win the World Series.
