JUST IN: Mets Latest Blockbuster Trade Have NY Mets Acquiring a $313 Million Two Time Silver Slugger in 4-Player Swap That Include outfielder Starling Marte, Drew Gilbert and Pitcher Brandon Sproat,

The Boston Red Sox made a big impact when they signed infielder Alex Bregman to a $120 million contract. However, current star third baseman Rafael Devers isn’t thrilled about the possibility of having to switch positions. Could his days in Boston be numbered? If so, what are the possibilities that the New York Mets will be a prospective trade destination?

Devers has been a consistent hitter for Boston for the whole of his big league career. Since 2021, he has won two Silver Slugger Awards, been named to three All-Star Games, and placed in the top 20 of the American League MVP Award voting four times. He has a.873 OPS throughout this time, averaging 32 home runs, 37 doubles, 96 RBI, and 91 runs scored for the Red Sox.
Could Devers be dealt if he is unhappy with what may happen on Boston’s roster in the coming days and weeks? That appears doubtful, but it will not stop the rumours from spreading. Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer offered the following hypothetical deal between Boston and New York:
Mets get Rafael Devers, a third baseman.
Red Sox get outfielder Starling Marte, right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat, and outfielder Drew Gilbert.

“It would be an imperfect fit, as Devers taking over at third would force Mark Vientos, Pete Alonso, and Jesse Winker to share first base and the DH spot,” according to Rymer. “However, one of those men (Winker) should be a bench jockey regardless. Even with a $331 million payroll, the Mets are projected to be a second-tier National League contender behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies. “Adding Devers would upend that equation, with the added bonus of setting the Mets up nicely for beyond 2025. He, Vientos, Juan Soto, and Francisco Lindor would be aboard for the long journey.” Devers is in the middle of a 10-year, $313.5 million contract that would keep him under team control until 2033.
