JUST IN: Red Sox GM Reportedly Delivers Good News On Shortstop Trevor Story

If it’s spring, then it must be time for the Red Sox to paint an optimistic picture of shortstop Trevor Story’s health and performance. The power-hitting infielder has played only 163 games over three seasons in Boston, but once again, there’s hope he can return to form.

Fortunately for the Red Sox, they’ve built a lineup that isn’t reliant on Story’s availability. With the addition of Alex Bregman to join Rafael Devers, the return of a healthy Triston Casas at first base, and the potential midseason arrival of top prospect Roman Anthony, Boston’s offense should be productive even if Story struggles with injuries again.

However, if Story can rediscover the power that led to 158 home runs in six seasons with Colorado, it would be a major boost for the Red Sox, who need more right-handed power—one of the reasons they signed Bregman. A resurgence from Story could elevate Boston into a true AL contender.

So far this spring, he’s off to a promising start, batting .476 with two home runs in seven games. When asked by former MLB GM Jim Bowden which player has impressed, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow named Story, offering a positive update.

“He has dealt with injuries since signing with the Red Sox in 2022, but he’s currently healthy, and they expect big things from him,” Bowden wrote.

Breslow added, “Story is back to full strength, combining his strong defensive skills with improved bat speed and approach. We’re excited about what a healthy Trevor Story can bring to our team.”

Indeed, Story has looked sharp so far—but he looked promising last spring, too. A productive season would be a welcome development, but given his history, cautious optimism is warranted.
