KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman has an upcoming court date after being charged for injuring an infant in her care at a Piedmont Triad daycare.

In August 2024, Nadia Tatyana Norwood, 22, of Winston-Salem, was charged with felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury after a 2-year-old’s leg was fractured in her care in June.

Warrants say that Norwood’s “willful act or grossly negligent omission in the care of the child shows a reckless disregard for human life if the act or omission results in serious physical injury to the child (spiral fracture of left tibia).” Law enforcement has not identified the day care center where Norwood was working at the time of the incident.

Norwood is expected in court on April 7.

The director of First Baptist Church Child Development Center confirmed that Norwood was an employee in 2024 and no longer works at the center.

NCDHHS forms indicate that the child care center is on a corrective action plan that was issued in December. NCDHHS officials visited on June 27, and an inspector found “substantiation of child maltreatment. A staff member failed to meet the physical needs of a child resulting in serious physical injury.”

The NCDHHS did not identify the staff member involved in the incident at First Baptist Church Child Development Center.

The day care is in compliance with their corrective action plan, according to the NCDHHS’s March visit to the facility.

The NCDHHS has been reached for further information about the violations noted at First Baptist Church.

This is just one of several incidents of abuse or neglect, unconnected to Norwood or First Baptist Church Child Development Center, being reported at area daycare centers.
