“Emmy Nominations 2025 Unveiled: ‘Severance’ Stuns With 27 Nods, ‘The Studio’ Breaks Comedy Records, and Shocking First-Timers Shake Up Hollywood’s Biggest Night”

The wait is finally over — the 2025 Emmy Awards nominations have been announced, and the television world is buzzing with excitement, shock, and plenty of debate. With streaming giants dominating once again and both fresh faces and seasoned veterans making headlines, this year’s nominations prove the Emmys are as unpredictable and thrilling as ever.

Severance Dominates the Field

Apple TV+’s hit psychological thriller Severance emerged as the year’s top contender, earning a jaw-dropping 27 nominations, the most of any show. Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and Patricia Clarkson all secured acting nods, while the series itself will compete for Outstanding Drama Series. The second season’s dark twists and bold storytelling appear to have struck a chord with Emmy voters, cementing the show as the frontrunner heading into the ceremony.

A Penguin Takes Flight

Not far behind, Matt Reeves’ gritty HBO series The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell in a transformative performance, scored 24 nominations. Competing in the Limited or Anthology Series category, it has quickly positioned itself as a heavyweight, with Farrell’s chilling portrayal drawing comparisons to past Emmy-winning turns by the likes of Bryan Cranston and Matthew McConaughey.

The Studio Breaks Records

On the comedy side, Seth Rogen’s meta-satirical The Studio made history with 23 nominations — the most ever for a freshman comedy. The show, which skewers the absurdity of Hollywood itself, earned nods across acting, writing, and directing categories. Its breakout cast, including Rogen and rising star Anya Taylor-Joy, has given the comedy world plenty to celebrate and may pose the biggest threat to returning favorites like Abbott Elementary and The Bear.

Surprising Firsts and Historic Moments

This year’s nominations were also packed with groundbreaking moments. Kathy Bates, at 76, earned a Lead Actress in a Drama nod for her performance in Matlock, making her one of the oldest women ever nominated in that category. On the other end of the spectrum, 15-year-old Owen Cooper made history as the youngest nominee in the Supporting Actor in a Limited Series category for his role in Adolescence.

Meanwhile, fan favorites like The Last of Us, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, and Only Murders in the Building all secured nominations, ensuring fierce competition across the board.

Streaming Giants Dominate

As in recent years, streaming platforms are leading the way. HBO/HBO Max once again secured the most nominations overall, while Netflix, Apple TV+, and Hulu all scored significant recognition. Traditional broadcast networks, however, were nearly absent, underscoring the shift in how audiences consume television.

Looking Ahead to Emmy Night

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, broadcasting on CBS and streaming via Paramount+. With so many historic firsts, record-breaking newcomers, and heavyweight favorites in play, the ceremony promises to deliver high drama and unforgettable moments.

For now, Hollywood is left buzzing, debating, and speculating: Will Severance sweep? Can The Studio pull off a freshman victory? Or will a surprise dark horse steal the spotlight? One thing is certain — the 2025 Emmys are shaping up to be a night to remember.
