AMANDA PLATELL: I Never Thought I’d Feel Sorry for Harry — But Meghan’s Latest Move Has Trampled on the One Thing He’d Do Anything to Defend

Prince Harry has always guarded his mother’s memory fiercely — but Meghan Markle’s latest act has left even his critics wondering how much more he can endure in silence.

I never imagined I’d say this — but for the first time, I genuinely feel sorry for Prince Harry.

The man who turned his back on the Royal Family, who traded duty for documentaries, and who’s spent years attacking his relatives from across the Atlantic — yes, that Harry. Because no matter what he’s done, there’s always been one thing he’s stood firm on: his mother’s memory.

From his teenage years walking behind Diana’s coffin to his adulthood crusade against the press he blames for her death, Harry’s loyalty to his late mother has been unwavering. And yet, in a stunning twist of irony, it’s Meghan Markle — the woman he loves most — who seems to have trampled on that sacred line.

This week, Meghan stunned the world with a social media video showing her casually being driven through the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris — the same tragic spot where Princess Diana lost her life in 1997. Meghan, relaxed in the backseat, her feet up, smiled at the camera as the car glided through the tunnel that changed royal history forever.

The backlash was swift. Royal commentators, fans, even some of her most devoted defenders, were horrified. Was it tone-deaf? Absolutely. Cruel? Perhaps not intentionally — but devastatingly insensitive, yes.

For Harry, this must feel like a personal betrayal. No amount of palace feuds or Netflix deals could compare to the emotional weight of seeing his wife — knowingly or not — appear to make light of his mother’s final moments.

We all know Harry adored Diana. He once said he hears her voice “every day” guiding him. She was his moral compass, the constant in a world of chaos. Which makes Meghan’s decision all the more painful — not just for public optics, but for what it symbolizes: a disregard for the deepest wound in Harry’s soul.

And what did Meghan think would happen? That people wouldn’t notice? That the symbolism would be ignored? If so, she misjudged spectacularly. Because in this case, even those who’ve long criticized Harry’s choices find themselves sympathizing with him.

It’s a rare moment when public opinion pivots in his favor — but it’s happening now. Meghan’s ill-judged attempt at glamour has inadvertently reminded the world of Harry’s humanity, his grief, and his enduring vulnerability.

He may forgive her — love, after all, excuses many things — but it’s hard to imagine this hasn’t cut deep.

For years, Harry has fought to protect his mother’s legacy from being commercialized, manipulated, or exploited. Now, in one short clip, his own wife has done the very thing he’s spent a lifetime fighting against.

And for that, I can’t help but feel sorry for him.
