‘100% Confirmed’ – Takeover completes as Fabrizio Romano delivers new update on Manchester United takeover
Man United supporters continue to eagerly await news of a takeover of the club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Sheikh Jassim.
The end of the Glazer family’s 18-year reign would surely be the best start to the 2023/24 season for any true Red Devils fan, but the lack of positive news in this regard must be a frustration for all.
In Erik ten Hag’s view, he can still start with the current budget and buy a few new stars, but it would almost certainly be a given that the Dutchman would have more money to spend if the club were bought out soon. on rebuilding his team.
Fans may be expecting a new dawn at Old Trafford, just as Newcastle United fans did when the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) took over St. James’ Park.
Unfortunately for everyone involved, there doesn’t appear to be a quick fix at this point. “The situation is still the same, so it’s a very complicated story,” reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano told Give Me Sport.
“Things are definitely happening behind the scenes. It’s 100% confirmed.”
Fans are unlikely to want to hear that, but it seems clear the Glazers never really thought of them when making trade decisions for the club. So why should they change their way of life?
At this rate, the toxic environment surrounding the club is sure to continue.

BREAKING: Mason Mount is Manchester United new number 7
Mason Mount has been given the number seven at Manchester United, meaning he takes over from Cristiano Ronaldo in the shirt.
On Wednesday Mount was finally confirmed as a United player after weeks of negotiations with Chelsea over signing the midfielder.
It initially remained a mystery what squad number he would be given but it’s now been revealed he will take the legendary number seven shirt.
Players such as Ronaldo, Eric Cantona and Bryan Robson have flourished wearing the number but in recent years Antonio Valencia, Alexis Sanchez and Ronaldo haven’t fared so well.
ADVERT
When he was first announced as a United signing earlier in the day the former Chelsea star wasn’t given a number in the first shots of him in the United kit.
It led fans to believe that there would be a reshuffle at Old Trafford and see Raphael Varane move to the number four shirt and Mount wear 19, which he wore at Stamford Bridge.
ADVERT
In turn many felt that Alejandro Garnacho would be upgraded from the number 49 and take his rightful place as Ronaldo’s successor in the seven shirt.
However the young Argentine who signed a new contract last month, will now have to keep his current squad number or find a different one.
The legend of wearing the seven shirt at United goes back to the 50s with Dennis Viollet and was then taken on by George Best in the 60s.
ADVERT
Best is perhaps the most iconic wearer of the shirt at Old Trafford in an era before players had specific squad numbers given to them.
Robson was called Captain Marvel in the 80s when he wore the shirt in a poor United team in which he was the stand out star.
In more recent times Cantona wore it with the kind of personality that Best brought to it and was the catalyst for much of the success under Sir Alex Ferguson.
His flicking up of the collar is as iconic as anything anyone else who wore the shirt has done, even Ronaldo and Beckham’s free kicks.
ADVERT
In recent years however the shirt has been more of a curse with Michael Owen, Memphis Depay, Valencia, Sanchez and even Ronaldo’s second stint with the number not going well.

Fans are comparing Mason Mount’s farewell video to the one posted by Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Mason Mount’s farewell message to Chelsea fans ahead of his move to Manchester United has been compared to a video posted by another academy product.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek ended his 19-year association with Chelsea last week, when he joined Serie A side AC Milan on a four-year deal worth €4 million [£3.4m] per-season.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who made 155 appearances for the Blues, will join up with former teammate Fikayo Tomori at the San Siro.
After winning two Premier League titles, the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup with his boyhood club, the midfielder posted an emotional three-minute video to show his appreciation to Chelsea.

He captioned the below video, featuring footage from his youth days, saying: “Thank you for everything @ChelseaFC.”
Days later and Mason Mount said goodbye to Chelsea in a short video message on Instagram.
ADVERT
“Hi Chelsea fans. Given the speculation over the last six months, this may not come as a surprise to you but it doesn’t make it any easier to tell you that I’ve made a decision to leave Chelsea,” he began.
“You deserved more than a written statement…”
After Mount uploaded his farewell video ahead of his reported £60 million move to Manchester United, many Chelsea fans compared the two announcement videos.
ADVERT
One supporter commented on Loftus-Cheek’s video, saying: “This is how you say goodbye. Thank you,” while another wrote: “Now compare this to Mount’s video.”
A third said: “I’m not on the bandwagon of ‘screw Mason mount the snake’ but this is how you do a farewell video for a team you’ve been at since youth.”
A fourth added: “Coming back to this after that Mount video. Shows the stark difference in mentality and maturity. I understand if things didn’t go well in negotiations for Mount but it’s truly a slap on the face for the fans who actually supported him (and still do) despite everything. Shame.”
A fifth wrote: “It’s emotional seeing these homegrown players leave tho, Cheek especially considering the potential he had and his dream of becoming a club legend got shattered by some pointless friendly game.”
ADVERT
A day after he posted a goodbye message, Mount spoke for the first time after his transfer to United was confirmed.
“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career,” he said.

“It’s never easy….” – Mason Mount on moving to Man Utd from rivals Chelsea as transfer confirmed
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has spoken for the first time after his transfer to the club was confirmed on Wednesday.
Mount has signed a long-term contract at Old Trafford, having been one of manager Erik ten Hag’s key targets at the beginning of the summer.
He joins the club from Chelsea for a fee of around £55 million, with United having seen three bids rejected, and having pulled out of negotiations, before a deal was finally struck with their Premier League rivals.
On Tuesday, the 24-year-old England international posted a goodbye message to Chelsea on Instagram, where he thanked the club’s fans for their support.

Now, Mount has reacted to his move to his new club.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Mount began by referencing his spell of over 18 years at Chelsea, where he rose through the Cobham academy before establishing himself as a first team star from 2019.

He explained: “It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career.
“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.

“I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”
ADVERT
Mount becomes United’s first summer signing, and continues something of an exodus from Chelsea since the window opened.
The Blues have sold Kai Havertz to Arsenal, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly to Al Ahli, Ruben Loftus-Cheek to AC Milan and Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City already during the window as they look to offset the high spending from last season.
