Man Utd youngster set to feature in first two pre-season friendlies before quitting transfer
Erik ten Hag will give one of Manchester United’s most exciting youngsters a chance during the Red Devils’ pre-season campaigns before sealing a move from Old Trafford
Erik ten Hag will give Manchester United youngster Will Fish a chance in pre-season despite leaving the club which is getting closer.
The 20-year-old hails from the famed Red Devils academy and made his first-team debut in a brief appearance on the final day of the 2020/21 season. Since then, it has become more and more difficult to find opportunities.
However, Ten Hag will give him the chance to impress as United begin pre-season duties. The Red Devils meet rivals Leeds United in Oslo on Wednesday. They will face French side Lyon in Edinburgh next Wednesday.
Fish is likely to make some exits as he is already in the squad for the Leeds clash. The young man hopes for better luck this time. He also had a chance last summer when United took on Premier League rivals Crystal Palace in Australia.
However, he was shown a straight red card just 19 minutes after being introduced as a substitute. With the Red Devils already leading 3-0, he failed to clear the ball from Eagles star Victor Akinwale.
Fish was then forced to take down his opponent and was sent off for a professional challenge as a result. Regardless of his performance, it looks like he’s moving on very soon.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Fish will remain in Scotland to complete his return to Hibernian, where he spent last season on loan. After joining the team at the start of the season, he managed to make 21 appearances in all competitions and score three goals. The former Stockport player then revealed he has no plans to return to academy football this season. Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, he said: “There’s no way I’m going to play reserve football again. I think everyone agrees on that.
“Once you get a taste of what this Saturday at 3pm will be like, when there’s pressure to take three points and the fans are cheering you on, it’s hard to find that feeling anywhere else. I’ll go definitely somewhere.
Meanwhile, he was also full of praise for his previous work at Hibs. “To be honest, I didn’t realize how big a club it is and what it means to the fans,” added Fish.
“There aren’t many clubs in the south outside the Premier League who would get Hibs’ support. That surprised me
“I think it’s a huge club. Living in Edinburgh, everyone is Hibs or Hearts. It feels like a football culture everywhere. It was definitely an eye opener and I owe a lot to Hibs for giving me this opportunity.
