Chris Sutton made a prediction for the Wolves vs Liverpool match
BBC Sport columnist Chris Sutton predicted Liverpool would defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League match taking place at Molineux on Saturday, September 16.
The Premier League will return this weekend after a two-week hiatus due to the international break. Jurgen Klopp and his team-mates will be looking to make it four straight wins this season against an unpredictable Wolves side.
Liverpool bounced back from a 1-1 draw against Chelsea to score impressive wins over Bournemouth (3-1), Newcastle United (2-1) and Aston Villa (3-0). They are currently ranked 3rd on the rankings with 10 points. On the other hand, the Wolves continue to form a unit under new coach Gary O’Neil. They have lost 3 matches and won only 1 match this season and are currently ranked 15th with 3 points.
The Red Devils have a statistical advantage, winning 12 of their last 13 matches against the Wolves. However, it is important to note that their only defeat was a 0-3 defeat in this match last season.
Sutton predicts Jurgen Klopp’s team will win all 3 points. He wrote (via BBC Sport):
“I said a few weeks ago that I thought Liverpool would be Manchester City’s strongest opponents this season and things seem to be falling into place for them. Keeping Mohamed Salah despite interest from Saudi Arabia is huge.” big. The Red Devils strikers are a great squad and so am I.” like the look of their new midfield.”
He added:
“Wolves haven’t played badly and were a bit unlucky to lose to Crystal Palace before the international break, but I don’t see them being able to stop Liverpool from getting involved.”
Sutton’s prediction:
0-2
The Liverpool striker is at risk of not playing for the Red Devils against Wolves
Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez may not play for the Red Devils against Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday. The 24-year-old was substituted at half-time in the match against Ecuador in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on September 12 due to a muscle injury.
Despite being on the bench for the Reds for the first three games, Nunez scored a brilliant brace against Newcastle to seal a 2-1 win. He was given his chance to start next week against Aston Villa and impressed providing an assist.
Unfortunately, Nunez may not be fit enough to face Wolves. Marcelo Bielsa provided an update on the Uruguayan’s health after the match, saying (via Rousing the Kop):
“Darwin came on because he couldn’t prepare well for the match, he had muscle difficulties and that limited his mobility. I thought it was a good idea to replace him because He couldn’t move to get into the rhythm of the game when we had to press or attack. He tried a lot, but you could see he wasn’t at his best.
Nunez, along with Luis Diaz, Alisson Becker and Luis Diaz, did not train with their teammates on Thursday (September 14) as they returned late from international duty. Jurgen Klopp is expected to provide an update on his condition in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
