Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri was the surprise starter in the team for the defeat against Bayern Munich.
The Uruguayan winger made only his second start for the Red Devils, after making his first start for the club last season against Real Betis.
Facundo Pellistri, however, looked a bit tentative out there and didn’t really make the impact that the fans had hoped for from the tricky winger.
However, one player believed that the winger took his chance at the Allianz Arena and there is a hope that Pellistri could perhaps start more often.
Bruno Fernandes’ verdict
Speaking after the defeat to the United Stand, Fernandes was full of praise for the winger and believed he has proven just what he can offer to the Red Devils.
“Pellistri is one of the players that deserves his chance and deserves a lot of credit for everything he has done for the team,” Fernandes said. “He is someone who is always available, always training hard and someone who deserves his chance.
“He did well today, he did the job the manager asked him to do and we are all happy for him because he really deserves to get his chances.”
Should he start more
One part of the winger’s performance that did impress was the sacrifices he was willing to make for the team and to help the defensive structure.
After the first 25 minutes, both Marcus Rashford and Pellistri were certainly defending the wide areas well, and, before Andre Onana’s mistake, the Red Devils were on top and shut out the home side.
Even after the goal, the pair were still doing well and tracking back and the question will inevitably turn to should Pellistri start more.
With United taking on Burnley this weekend, this may be a chance for the winger to show his attacking qualities and demonstrate to Erik Ten Hag why he should be the starting right-winger for the foreseeable future.
