“So childish…” – Man United star blasted for ‘baby’ antics vs Copenhagen by ex-Arsenal midfielder
Banchester United won 1-0 against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday evening but Alejandro Garnacho has been criticised for his antics late in the game.
After Harry Maguire provided the finishing touch to give United the lead in the second half, it appeared that Erik ten Hag’s side were on their way to a first Champions League win of the campaign.
That was until the visiting team were gifted a penalty in the last seconds of the game after Scott McTominay was penalised for a high-foot in his own box.
Andre Onana, who has had a difficult time at Old Trafford so far, turned hero on the night after he saved the penalty with a strong hand to ensure victory for The Reds.
However, Garnacho’s actions just before Jordan Larsson – Henrik’s 26-year-old son – stepped up to take the spot-kick have been spotted.
The winger, who came on midway through the second half, was seen scuffing up the penalty spot, which is a regular tactic used in football to try and make the penalty more difficult for the taker, although it can be viewed as unsportsmanlike.
Kim Källström, the former midfielder who made three appearances for Arsenal in 2014, was not fond of the actions of the 19-year-old.
“What an ugly type,” he said, as translated by Expressen. “Ah, I don’t know… That’s so childish. It’s such a baby level.”
TV4 presenter Olof Lundh agreed with the ex-Swedish international and suggested the Garnachoo should face retrospective punishment.
When questioned on the teenager’s seemingly successful attempt to put off the opposition penalty taker, Ten Hag stated that it was something that he was not aware of at the time.
“I didn’t see it,” the United manager told reporters. “The referee probably didn’t see it either. I don’t know.”
