Manchester United are in search of a top class defender to reinforce things at the back in the winter transfer window and are willing to sign Castello Lukeba.

According to Bild, Man Utd are intent on signing the 20-year-old center back, who has been an instant hit in Germany.

The renowned media outlet have mentioned that the Red Devils have consistently followed the player and scouts have monitored his performances again and again.

Lukeba moved to RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window for a fee of £31million (35 million euros) from Ligue 1 side, Olympique Lyon.

In the current campaign, so far, the youngster has started eight games in the Bundesliga and has helped the team keep five clean sheets.

His impressive performance at club level earned him a place in the French international side and last month, he made his debut for the Les Bleus in the 4-1 victory against Scotland.

As per Bild, the dilemma for Man Utd is that Leipzig have no intention of selling the talented defender, he was hired to replace Croatian international, Josko Gvardiol, who left for Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

At Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has badly missed Lisandro Martinez, who is sidelined with a long term injury. On the other hand, the likes of Varane, Lindelof and Maguire have not been consistent in the central defense.
