Manchester United would be ready to move for Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller if he decides against extending his contract expiring next summer, according to BILD.
The Germany international has spent his entire career with the Bavarian giants. He has seven goal contributions this season but has averaged only 40 minutes per game.
Amidst this, BILD claim that the player and the club are yet to decide over a renewal and this could pave the way for him to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
United have been long linked with the 34-year-old and the German publication mention that they would be ready to pounce if the attacker decides to move on from Bayern.
Alongside the Red Devils, a number of American and Saudi Arabian clubs continue to keep an eye on Muller, who has been a regular off the bench under Thomas Tuchel this term.
Muller speculation is purely agent-driven for new contract
Muller, who has been described as ‘world-class‘ by Bundesliga’s official website. is already a legendary figure at Bayern with almost 700 appearances to his name.
The German has been a key player for Bayern for 16 years and we would be surprised if he chooses to leave the club during the final phase of his playing career.
Muller would ideally want to retire in Munich. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund recently told DAZN that the club will negotiate a new deal with Muller in the next few weeks.
In our opinion, the speculation is purely agent-driven in order to speed up the renewal process.
United were admirers of Muller in the past and there are unlikely to approach to sign a player who is past his prime and could command a significant weekly salary to join the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is set to take control of the sporting operations, has already questioned United’s purchase of Casemiro. Muller falls into the same category. A deal will simply not happen.
