“I’m overjoyed to have him back.An exceptionally talented player After a lengthy injury, Erik ten Hag affirms that Man United’s best player is still a member of the squad.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Mason Mount will return to training today following his recent calf injury.

The England international has had a frustrating start to his United career. He suffered a hamstring injury after just two games into his debut campaign.

Mount was anticipated to get a regular run of starts after the November international break, but he picked up a calf problem in a training session.

Speaking in today’s press conference, Ten Hag confirmed that Mount will return to the training pitch, but refused to confirm when he could be involved again.

He told Manutd.com: “Mason Mount is, today, returning on the [training] pitch, but I don’t know how long it will take until he returns [to play]. I can’t say in this moment.”

Mount should be eased into action this month

The 24-year-old won’t be involved in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off at Newcastle United.

He is also anticipated to miss the midweek meeting against Chelsea but could make the matchday squad when United host Bournemouth on December 9.

In our opinion, the €60 million-rated star should be eased into action, considering he has suffered two separate injuries during the first half of the season.

Aside from Mount, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are currently on the sidelines, but United still have sufficient quality in the squad for the coming games.

Kobbie Mainoo had a fantastic Premier League debut at Everton last weekend where he played in the holding midfield role. Scott McTominay partnered him.

Against Galatasaray, it was McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat in the centre of the park. The latter took his chance to impress before Mainoo replaced him off the bench.

United no doubt have the midfield depth in the squad, but they have a physical battle on their hands against Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton at St James’ Park.

The Magpies have won five straight league games at home. This include wins over Arsenal and Chelsea.

United have beaten them just once in the last five meetings. They must go into Saturday’s game with the same intent as on Wednesday while avoiding defensive errors.
