Player Ratings: Newcastle vs Manchester United (Premier League)
The Reds were simply several levels below their opposition from minute one to minute ninety.
Erik ten Hag attempted to change the flow of the game by replacing Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who were both extremely poor, towards the beginning of the second half.
However, things remained the same and United put out their worst performance of the season, which was a challenging task before kick-off.
The full player ratings can be read below.
Andre Onana – 5/10
Looked a little phased by the Newcastle support.
Regularly exposed defensively but wasn’t getting much help from his winger.
Harry Maguire – 8/10
Some excellent blocks and interceptions to stop Newcastle from getting into extremely dangerous areas on a number of occasions. Two blocks in the box at the end were brilliant. United’s Man of the Match
Luke Shaw – 5.5/10
Played well mostly, but poor clearance led to the goal.
Diogo Dalot – 5/10
Some very good moments to help United break the press on a couple of occasions towards the start of the game, but also some dodgy moments, including the potential penalty mix-up with Onana.
Kobbie Mainoo – 7.5/10
Imagine saying United needed nine more Kobbie Mainoo’s a few months ago? They could’ve done with that in this game. One of the only players with calmness and conviction on the ball.
Scott McTominay – 5/10
Didn’t offer enough going forward, because United haven’t had the ball, to justify his position starting in midfield, considering his lack of impact deeper.
Bruno Fernandes – 4.5/10
Opened up Newcastle’s defence several times towards the start of the game. Didn’t offer much else for the rest of the game.
Marcus Rashford – 1/10
What is there to say? Absolutely nothing from him. Worrying.
Anthony Martial – 2/10
Very poor dropping deeper and trying to link play, whilst offering little pressing and no threat in behind.
Alejandro Garnacho – 4/10
Has looked threatening on several occasions on the left but also wasted a couple of chances.
Subs
Antony – 5.5/10
OK performance.
Rasmus Hojlund – 5.5/10
Some decent moments.
Sofyan Amrabat – 5/10
OK.
