Manchester United bounced back from a disappointing week to beat Chelsea 2-1 in their Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Scott McTominay scored on either side of half-time for Erik ten Hag’s side, rifling an effort past Robert Sanchez before powering a header into the net from close-range. Former Manchester City academy graduate Cole Palmer beat Andre Onana in between but United were good value for their win.
Victory ensures United are back to winning ways and propels them into sixth place in the table for the night. They are level on points with fifth-placed Tottenham and only three behind Manchester City.
Here are your moments missed from a hard-fought win.
Farming royalty
Jeremy Clarkson and Caleb Cooper, stars of the Amazon Prime Video series ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ were in attendance at Old Trafford on Wednesday night to watch the game and both had a vested interest. Clarkson is a lifelong Chelsea fan and Cooper was looking forward to his first live match at Old Trafford to watch his beloved United.
Cooper had actually been at Old Trafford a few days prior to help the ground staff prepare the pitch, and he seemingly worked his magic as the turf was in impeccable condition.
Future United captain
The players walked out of the Old Trafford tunnel to a chorus of cheers from the home support, who were excellent again throughout the 90 minutes. As is customary nowadays, each United player was accompanied by a young mascot and one left a positive impression on his heroes.
As the players lined up and the Premier League anthem rang out, Diogo Dalot took the chance to rile up his teammates with a few claps and a little shout. At which point, a young boy alongside Onana turned around and gave it his all trying to do the same.
That was, clearly, a future leader in front of the United goalkeeper and his rallying cry worked as his team started brilliantly and were on the front foot from minute one.
Antony up for it
That bright start should have produced an opening goal inside nine minutes when United were awarded a penalty. Few noticed the incident in real time but after referee Chris Kavanagh was sent to the screen, it was clear that Enzo Fernandez had stamped on Antony’s foot.
Bruno Fernandes attempted to hop his way to a successful penalty but after seeing his effort saved by Sanchez, Rasmus Hojlund fired a powerful effort over the bar. Antony was out to prove a point, having been dropped for Saturday’s defeat at Newcastle, and the Brazilian was refusing to be beaten.
His instant reaction was to gee up the crowd behind the goal and urge teammate Fernandes to lift his head up and get over the miss.
