    Breaking: Freddie Ljungberg likens Liverpool player to Lionel Messi after Crystal Palace win

     

     

    Freddie Ljungberg has likened Harvey Elliott’s technique on the ball to Lionel Messi after the Liverpool midfielder’s winner against Crystal Palace.The 20-year-old England youth international was the star of the show for the Reds as Elliott’s late strike took Liverpool top of the Premier League standings.And speaking on Viaplay’s post-match coverage of the game, Arsenal legend Ljungberg was full of praise for how Elliott took his goal, with the Swedish pundit comparing the youngster to Messi.

    Indeed, Elliott’s quick feet and fast finish were somewhat reminiscent of the footballing great, with Messi’s quick-feet some of the most dangerous the sport has ever seen.

    And now, according to Ljungberg, Elliott’s goal reminded the former Arsenal superstar of Messi, praise that could now come any bigger for the Liverpool midfielder.

    Ljungberg said about Elliott’s goal: “He has really nice feet. It’s almost like Messi with that inside-outside flick, and it makes Elliott really good technically with his dribbling and how he confuses his opponents.”

    Comparisons to Messi is arguably the highest form of praise any player can now receive in football, and Elliott should be fired up by Ljungberg’s comments.

    The former Sweden international has played with some of the best players in the 21st Century and knows a thing or two about when a youngster has the potential to become world-class.

    And based off Ljungberg’s praise Elliott could become just that for Liverpool, with the midfielder the hero for the weekend for the Reds after his impressive goal against Palace on Saturday.

    Whilst Elliott won’t hit Messi’s level, the Liverpool prospect can become a real asset for the Anfield side in the years to come, with Ljungberg clearly a big fan of the youngster’s technical abilities.
