Sergio Reguilon has officially departed Manchester United. The club confirmed today that the 27-year-old will be returning to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, with Manchester United choosing to exercise a clause in his contract which terminated the loan early.

The club explained that Sergio Reguilon was given back due to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia returning to full fitness soon alongside the fact Diogo Dalot can cover in that role.

Sergio Reguilon’s message to Manchester United fans

The Spaniard took to Instagram shortly after the news broke, to give his final goodbye to Manchester United fans, his teammates and everyone else at the club. The post read:

‘It has been great to play for Manchester United and I just want to say thank you to the club, the fans and my teammates. It was a privilege to play for this huge club. I wish all the best for the Red Devils.’

A nice tribute from Reguilon, who has proven to the very end he was always passionate about United during his time at Old Trafford.

This is why that, despite only 12 games played and zero goals or assists, it is quite sad to see him go.

Manchester United’s Instagram themselves sent a message to Reguilon in the comments section. It read:

‘Thank you and all the best, Sergio,’ with a fist bump emoji.

Current teammate Kobbie Mainoo and fellow Spaniard David de Gea left comments as well, but couldn’t muster any words for the left-back. They simply replied with heart emojis.

We thank Reguilon for his services at United and wish him all the best for the future.
