Conor Bradley’s father was able to see his son make his Liverpool debut in 2021 after a kind intervention from another disabled fan – in the spirit of his own selflessness.

Joe Bradley’s death at the age of 58 was confirmed by Liverpool on Saturday after a long battle with illness.

He lived to see his son, 20, become a Kop favourite after a run of games this season, including Liverpool’s 4-1 midweek demolition of Chelsea in which Conor scored.

And it turns out he was present for Conor’s debut in the EFL Cup against Norwich in 2021 – after a fellow fan kindly gifted their wheelchair bay.

A tweet from the Liverpool Disabled Supporters’ Association said: ‘In 2021, LFC at late notice needed a wheelchair bay at Norwich. I gave my bay up and thought no more of it.

‘Soon after, LFC arranged a video call with Jurgen Klopp who thanked me for giving my bay up. The bay was for Conor’s dad so he could watch his son make his LFC debut! YNWA.’

It was a touching act that allowed a devoted father to see his son on the big stage – the stuff of dreams for parents who sacrifice so much for their children to make it in professional football.

As it turns out, Joe had invested in his own community and helping others in the past.

A post from 2014 in a Facebook group called ‘The Dergian’ – local to Castlederg in County Tyrone, Conor’s place of birth – details how Joe once set up a charity fundraiser for Parkinson’s Disease, which he had.

Joe set up a golf classic at Strabane Golf Club through his business Derg Commercials.

The post reads: ‘As I am sure you are all aware, Joe suffers from Parkinson’s Disease and is most affected in his speech so finds it hard to communicate.

‘This is the reason for our campaign to help raise awareness (and some much needed money) for this charity in the hope that a cure may be found or and improved quality of life for those who suffer from the condition.’

The post continued: ‘Anyone interested in sponsoring a hole at the Golf Classic or would like to take part in the competition, please feel free to get in touch with us. The sponsorship for the holes are £25 and £50 per hole. Any other donations would be very welcomed.

‘Thank you for taking time to read this appeal for a charity that is extremely close to our hearts and if you can help in any way, your donation will go towards helping to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and towards research which hopefully, one day will find a cure.’

26-year-old’s place in the Liverpool team is now in danger, he needs a big performance today
    Sun 4 February 2024 08:00
    James Brooke
Liverpool’s game against Arsenal today is a big one in the context of the Premier League title race.

If the Reds win, they’ll move eight points ahead of Manchester City, Aston Villa and indeed the Gunners themselves. Lose, and the gap will be down to two points, opening the door for City to go top with two games in hand.

Aside from that though, there are a few little side stories at play in the Liverpool team. With players now returning to fitness, Jurgen Klopp’s squad is virtually full strength. Thiago Alcantara is the big one, finally back from almost a year out. However, we don’t think Thiago will get out on the pitch tomorrow, as much as we’d love to see that.

One player who will be itching to start though is Andy Robertson. The left-back made his return last weekend against Norwich City, but had to make do with a place on the bench that day, and midweek against Chelsea.

Normally, Robbo would be thrown straight back in, no questions asked. But such has been the form of Joe Gomez of late, the Scotland captain is being made to work for it.

In our opinion, Gomez has made himself undroppable in Robertson’s absence. With the first choice banging at the door though, today is a big day for Joe.

    Gomez fighting for his place
Few would have expected Liverpool would have been in this position a month or so ago. Without Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, the plan was for Gomez to simply make it through unscathed.

Instead, the 26-year-old has been one of the Reds’ top two or three performers ever since.

    MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Given the size of today’s game, the momentum Gomez has and the fact that Robertson only has 56 minutes in his legs since October, Liverpool’s No.2 deserves to go again at the Emirates.

But make no mistake, Robbo is still Klopp’s pick. And so he should be. The 29-year-old has been an absolute stalwart for the manager for more than seven years.

Although we think Jurgen will stick with Gomez for today, the pressure is now on the England international.

However, if he can step up and carry on going, then there’s no reason he can’t keep the shirt. As he’s likely to be face-to-face with Bukayo Saka, it’s the perfect audition for Gomez to lay down another big marker.

December’s reverse fixture with Arsenal was the Liverpool man’s first game at left-back in this little run. As Saka himself declared after the game, Gomez did well.

On the Gunners’ talisman’s home turf today, that challenge will be amplified further. Stand up tall, and Klopp will have no reason to change his left-back.

But anything other than a stand-out performance, and you’d imagine Robertson will be back for Burnley next week. Gomez has backed himself and come out swinging incredibly over the past six weeks. One more time to the well, Joe.

The Kansas City Chiefs face off against the San Francisco 49ers in next weekend’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

The game will see Kittle go head-to-head against Kelce, considered by many to be among the greatest tight ends in NFL history.

But, speaking ahead of next Sunday’s showdown, the 34-year-old claimed Kittle is the cream of the current crop.

‘He’s the best tight end in the league,’ Kelce said of his rival.

‘Better than Liverpool’… Pundit says ‘special’ manager should go to Man City rather than replace Klopp
    Sat 3 February 2024 15:30
    James Thompson
Scott Minto has suggested that Roberto De Zerbi would be a better replacement for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City rather than Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The Brighton & Hove Albion manager has been mentioned as a possible candidate to replace Klopp at Liverpool after it was announced last week that the German will be leaving the Merseyside club at the end of the season.

Having also been mentioned previously as an heir to Guardiola at City, the Italian has been the topic of conversation with one pundit who has shared his thoughts on if De Zerbi could find himself managing Liverpool or City in the future.

Pundit backs De Zerbi to manage City ahead of Liverpool

Photo by GLYN KIRK/AFP via Getty Images
Speaking in a recent episode of Premier League All Access, Minto had this to say about De Zerbi and what the future could hold for him after seeing his side lose 4-0 to Luton Town in midweek.

He said: “What De Zerbi has done to take it on is something special from what Graham Potter did as well and there’s always going to be blips in the road. That obviously was a big one and the important thing then is to bounce back in the very next game.

    MORE MAN CITY STORIES
“But in terms of De Zerbi, just because they lost 4-0, for me it doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t be a candidate for Liverpool, although I actually think he’d suit Manchester City better than Liverpool.”

Since being appointed as Brighton’s manager back in September 2022, the 44-year-old has overlooked 70 matches in total across all competitions ahead of today’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

Across those 70 games, Brighton have won 33, drawn 16 and lost 21, leaving De Zerbi with a points per match average of 1.64.

Back in October, Guardiola heaped praise on the Brighton boss by saying that he is one of the coaches he admires the most in world football.

Even though the Spaniard’s contract at the Etihad Stadium isn’t set to expire until 2025, it’ll be interesting to see if De Zerbi ends up in the Manchester club’s list of candidates to replace Guardiola whenever the 53-year-old decides to call it a day.

Jurgen Klopp to leave Anfield immediately as FSG confirmed all his bad attitude

Al-Ittihad negotiating £60 million deal for world-class Liverpool attacker

Following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United nine months ago, the wealthy Saudi Pro League have continued to poach some of European football’s biggest names.

Karim Benzema followed Ronaldo’s lead and multiple other big-name stars have also joined the lucrative Middle Eastern league, including England’s Jordan Henderson.

However, while the majority of Liverpool fans may not have been too concerned about losing their 33-year-old captain, who had undoubtedly already given the Reds his best years, things could be about to change.

And that is because recent reports claim Mohamed Salah is the Saudi Pro League’s next target.

“It is true. There are negotiations between Mohamed Salah and the Saudi club Al-Ittihad,” a source told national outlet Al-Riyadiyah.

“This is what I can say, for now I have no other details. The offer must be attractive for the Egyptian star to come to play in Saudi Arabia.”

It has been noted that Al-Ittihad, who have already lured Fabinho from Merseyside, are willing to offer the 2019-20 Premier League champions another £60 million, but this time, in exchange for their world-class number 11.

Not only that but in an attempt to convince Salah to leave Europe, Al-Ittihad are thought to be prepared to pay the 31-year-old Egypt international an eye-watering £155 million over two seasons.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé didn’t resolve his future during the January transfer window. However, he can still decide since the Frenchman can sign a pre-contract before his current deal with the Parisians expires in June.

Speculation and opinions about the outcome will abound until the 25-year-old decides on his future. The latest comes from journalist Rudy Galetti, who ruled out two potential destinations for the 25-year-old in his CaughtOffside column.

According to Galetti, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s only alternative remains Real Madrid. Furthermore, he notes that Liverpool has no chance now, and Saudi Arabia has no chance at all for the winger.

Should the 25-year-old choose to leave, PSG has already set its sights on AC Milan’s Rafael Leão as his replacement. Reports suggest that Leão has been informed by his close circle about PSG’s interest, leading him to reconsider his future despite having just extended his contract with AC Milan until 2028.

“Transfer shocker: Liverpool beats Real Madrid to sign £190m target, as confirmed by his agent after victory!”
    DONE DEAL

According to O Jogo, despite interest from Manchester City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, Argentina’s World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez is prioritizing a move to Premier League superpower Liverpool
Benfica took a risk and accomplished something no one else would have done six months ago. They activated the £18 million release clause in Enzo Fernandez’s River Plate contract.

Even the most enthusiastic Benfica supporter could not have predicted how far Enzo would progress in such a short period of time.

The 21-year-old playmaker smiled for images on Sunday night at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium while carrying a World Cup winner’s medal around his neck, the Young Player of the Tournament award in one hand, and the Jules Rimet in the other.

Meanwhile, his asking price has risen from £18 million to about £100 million, with the Portuguese giants unwilling to let Enzo depart for anything less than his exorbitant release clause.

LIVERPOOL LEAD THE CHASE TO SIGN ARGENTINA’S WORLD CUP WINNER ENZO FERNANDEZ.

According to La Capital, the Merseyside giants have already agreed to terms with Enzo’s club. O Jogo has now presented evidence to support his claim. Liverpool will also match any bid made by rival suitors, who include Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United.

Liverpool appears to be given ‘priority’ by Enzo.
Enzo has made it clear that he wants to become the most expensive signing in the history of one of Europe’s most illustrious football clubs. And, as his outstanding performances in the Qatar World Cup revealed, he is not a man who gives in under pressure.

Liverpool has a good working relationship with Benfica as well. They agreed to a £64 million deal for Darwin Nunez last August.

“He has a bright future,” Argentina captain Lionel Messi said of Fernandez, who kicked off Sunday’s final victory over France. “Enzo is an exceptional genius.” He exudes charisma and makes amazing passes. Spectacular.”

His playing talent is absolutely incredible. “At only 21 years old,” recalls former Real Madrid coach Jose Peseiro.

“The best player with whom I worked at Real Madrid was Zinedine Zidane.” Of course, I don’t want to draw parallels. But I’m speaking to Enzo’s brief and spectacular vision, which reminds me of Zidane.

“What exactly is Enzo’s age?” Is he 21?”That’s either a lie or a stroke of genius!”

Jorg Schmadtke is allegedly close to being hired as Liverpool’s new sporting director, with the German expected to supervise Jurgen Klopp’s summer plans
According to Sky Germany writer Florian Plettenberg, despite the fact that terms have been agreed upon, the former VfL Wolfsburg official has yet to sign his contract with the Anfield club, despite the fact that Schmadtke’s wife has given her approval for the move to take place in the coming weeks.

Schmadtke, a personal friend of Klopp’s, is set to play a crucial role in Liverpool’s summer business, with the former Bundesliga transfer head entrusted with monitoring the German market and identifying targets from the country who may be of interest to the Reds.

    Jurgen-Klopp-Darwin-Nunez
Liverpool would love to recruit Schmadtke sooner rather than later, with the summer transfer market only a few weeks away, but this newest update looks to imply that the Anfield club revealing the announcement is only a matter of time.

Liverpool’s acquisition of Schmadtke might be critical for Klopp’s next squad.

Schmadtke has a great reputation in his native Germany, and while he won’t be at Anfield for long, his work with Klopp might define the Reds for years to come.

Most Liverpool fans appreciate how crucial this transfer window is for the club, and with Klopp now gaining the services of a sporting director in Schmadtke whom he trusts, the pair might set the groundwork for the Merseyside club.

LIVERPOOLLiverpool ready to sign £35M million treble-winner to replace departing FabinhoPublished 3 hours ago on July 16, 2023By matchlivenews

Liverpool ready to sign £35M million treble-winner to replace departing Fabinho

It has been claimed that LIVERPOOL are now ready to pay £35 million in order to try and sign Man City star Kalvin Phillips.

At Leeds – Phillips established himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League – and that prompted Man City boss Pep Guardiola to take him to the Etihad.

However – the move has not quite worked out and he has struggled to make an impact -with a number of injuries keeping him on the sidelines more often that he would have hoped for.

That has led to stunning reports in the media that West Ham are eyeing up a stunning deal for the midfielder – especially as they are seeking a replacement for the much talked about Declan Rice.

However – it now seems that Liverpool are very much interested in a move for the midfielder as they seek to sign a replacement for the departing Fabinho.

    WHAT IS THE LATEST

IcFootballnews believes that the Reds are keen to sign the out-of-favour English international and will offer £35 million to get the deal done this summer.

It has been claimed that Liverpool have already contacted Phillips regarding a potential summer move, and the 27-year-old is open to arriving at Anfield.

WOULD HE BE A GOOD SIGNING FOR LIVERPOOL?

When Phillips joined Man City – he must have believed that his career was going to go to that next level – but with all the quality that the club have – he has really struggled.

He is a very good player and a man that Liverpool fans would love – so it may be the best thing for him to leave City this summer – as he needs to reignite his career.

And at LIVERPOOL – it could be the big move that helps him win MORE trophies and achieve his goal of reaching that next level in the game

Liverpool are top of the Premier League and playing entertaining football under Jürgen Klopp, but things could’ve been different had they made different signings last summer.

The Reds were coming off a fifth-place finish and looked in need of a squad rejuvenation, and they were linked were several players from around the world.

They ultimately brought in four new names — Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endō and Ryan Gravenberch — while parting with a dozen players, but there were many that were linked to the Anfield side that didn’t become Liverpool players.

One such name is Moises Caicedo, who said he turned down Liverpool in favour of a move to Chelsea. Caicedo moved to Stamford Bridge for a reported £115 million transfer fee, a British record, and former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson issued a blunt assessment of how the saga turned out for his old side.

“On the way that Chelsea are playing, I think Liverpool dodged a bullet not signing Moises Caicedo this summer,” Lawrenson said while speaking to Paddy Power. “Last May/June, Liverpool had no midfield players, and we all wondered what was going to happen.

“It was funny in the match against Chelsea [on Wednesday], watching the Liverpool fans chant about the midfield players they didn’t get. The players Liverpool have signed have contributed in every way – there’s goals from them and they’ve settled into a nice three.

“Even Wataru Endō, who looks a little bit lightweight, has done well. I do believe that has a lot to do with Jürgen Klopp and the way that he manages.”

While Lawrenson was harsh in his assessment of Caicedo’s first half-season with the London side, he offered his sympathy to Chelsea’s manager for having to deal with a squad filled with a dozen new players.

“To be fair to Mauricio Pochettino, he has so many players. I don’t even think he knows what his best team is. If you have such a big group, it’s difficult to be personal with everyone. Is that arm around you laughing? People still love to play for him.”

FOOTBALLLiverpool were offered the chance to sign RB Salzburg centre-back Oumar Solet in January but turned down the offerby Ben Moore2 February 2024

Liverpool did not sign any player during the January transfer window as manager Jurgen Klopp is clearly pleased with his current squad heading into the second half of the season.

The Premier League leaders will fancy their chances of ending the campaign with silverware, and they believe that their players can get the job done.

They were linked with a couple of players last month, but they were never close to completing any signing and even rejected the chance to bring Red Bull Salzburg centre-back Oumar Solet to Anfield, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims that the Reds opted against signing the Frenchman despite having him on their radar following several scouting missions.

“They were offered a nice possibility, an interesting opportunity with
Oumar Solet at Salzburg as new centre-back,” Romano said on the latest edition of The Here We Go Podcast.

“A player that they have been scouting for a long time.

“Obviously, the German director of Liverpool (Jorg) Schmadtke knows the player so well, so there were discussions internally this possibility for Oumar Solet.

“Then Liverpool decided not to sign any player, but Solet was one of the names in the list also at Napoli, and also in the list at Lens, then he ended up staying at Salzburg.”

Solet, once praised as ‘superb’ by one Salzburg podcaster dreams of playing in the Premier League and is also on the radar of Everton.

Liverpool want a centre-back as they prepare for life without Joel Matip at the end of the season, and Fulham star Tosin Adarabioyo is on their radar.

They have also been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Willian Pacho, but the next manager and sporting director will be making the transfer decisions in the summer, and more targets could emerge by then.

Solet has been impressing for the Austrian club since joining them from Lyon in 2020, and the 23-year-old could be perfect for Liverpool.

The 6ft 4in defender is comfortable on the ball and in possession, but whether the Reds will make a concrete bid for him in the summer remains to be seen as both Klopp and Schmadtke will no longer be around by then.

‘Were looking’… Journalist says Man City were eyeing up two Tottenham Hotspur players in January
    Fri 2 February 2024 20:30
    James Thompson
Alasdair Gold has revealed that Manchester City had their eyes on signing two Tottenham Hotspur youth players in January.

The recent winter transfer window saw the Citizens land a deal to sign Claudio Echeverri, as well as wave goodbye to Kalvin Phillips as the midfielder joined West Ham United on loan until the end of the season.

Now that the window has closed, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding two players the Manchester club had on their radar but ultimately didn’t end up landing deals for.

Gold said City were looking at two Spurs players
    England U17 v Spain U17 – International Friendly
Photo by Angel Martinez – The FA/The FA via Getty Images
Speaking in a recent edition of Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham, Gold had this to say about two particular Spurs youngsters that City had their eyes on last month.

He said: “You’ve got Mikey Moore, who is a real incredible talent. Callum Olusesi, as well. Both Moore and Olusesi they convinced to stay at Spurs. Many, many top clubs, I think the likes of Man City were looking to get them and teams like that.”

    MORE MAN CITY STORIES
Olusesi, who is a midfielder in Spurs’ U18 squad, has scored five goals and delivered three assists in 12 appearances across the U18 Premier League and the FA Youth Cup.

Then with Moore, he has found the net nine times and supplied six assists in nine league appearances while playing in a variety of different midfield and attacking positions.

This makes it easy to see why the Manchester club had their eyes on potentially adding the two 16-year-olds to their youth ranks.

As things stand, City’s U18 side are currently 17 points behind their rivals Manchester United at the top of the North version of the league table.

With that in mind, if the club had been able to land deals for Moore and Olusesi in January, this could have given City’s U18 side a great boost to their chances of catching up to their close rivals, especially considering how effective the Spurs duo have proved to be in front of goal this season.

Roberto Firmino set for new chance after Liverpool return and five-month ‘nightmare’
Roberto Firmino remained in Saudi Arabia after the close of the transfer window despite transfer speculation linking the Liverpool forward with a premature exit from Al-Ahli

While Jordan Henderson might have escaped his Saudi Pro League ‘nightmare’ in January, it was a different story for Roberto Firmino.

The pair both left Liverpool to move to the Gulf State last summer, with the England international completing a controversial £12m transfer to Al-Ettifaq while the Brazilian joined Al-Ahli on a Bosman transfer. Having won every major honour at Anfield, both were marquee arrivals in their new surroundings and named club captain at their respective clubs.

Yet both would struggle in the Middle East during the first half of the season. Regularly playing in front of paltry crowds that would only fill a fraction of Anfield, Henderson made 19 appearances for Al-Ettifaq, as he failed to score but registered five assists, after reuniting with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

But while the Saudi side would start the season well, they won only one of their 13 league and cup games since the end of September, dropping to eighth in the Pro League table as a result. With Henderson and his family struggling to settle in the Gulf State, the former Reds captain would ultimately seek pastures new and ripped up his contract to return to Europe with Ajax last month.

The 33-year-old had at least played consistently for Al-Ettifaq, before deciding Saudi Arabia wasn’t for him, with it his own decision to seek an exit. In contrast, Al-Ahli had reportedly wanted to offload Firmino after half a season, only for such a move to fail to materialise.

Enjoying a dream start with the club, the forward actually scored a hat-trick on his debut as he captained Al-Ahil to a 3-1 victory over Al-Hazem on the opening day of the season. But making 19 appearances for the club to date, he hasn’t scored since.

Initially first-choice in attack, he’d lose his place at the end of October following a 3-1 loss to league-leaders Al-Hilal with supporters also said to have turned on the forward. Losing the captaincy in the process, Al-Ahli went on an eight-game unbeaten run after dropping the forward.

Winning five of those matches, and keeping seven clean sheets, the 32-year-old was limited to 94 minutes of action across seven substitute appearances.

Meanwhile, Saudi international Firas Al-Buraikan would lead the line at Firmino’s expense, registering six goals and three assists from those aforementioned eight games to take his total to the club to nine goals from 14 appearances. Having started the season with Al-Fateh, the 23-year-old has 13 goals from 19 matches this season, while his form has helped take Al-Ahli up to third in the table.

After losing his place in the side, Firmino had found himself linked with a move away from the Saudi club with a possible Premier League return mooted. Speculation linked the Brazilian with winter moves to Chelsea and Fulham, only for neither move to materialise, while reported interest from Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq also led to nothing.

Consequently, when the Saudi transfer window closed on January 30, he found himself still at the club. For the record, it had already been reported that he had no intention of leaving Al-Ahli despite the speculation.

Having returned to Liverpool at the turn of the year, and joined Fabinho in watching his former team-mates beat Newcastle United 4-2 on New Year’s Day, Firmino reported back to training with Al-Ahli on January 15 following the Saudi Pro League’s mid-season break.

And he’s enjoyed a respectable return in his side’s friendlies, starting all five games to date and scoring in a 4-1 victory over Abha on January 19, and in a 2-2 draw with Al-Nasr on Thursday. But whether that means the door is open to a reprieve with the club in the second half of the season remains to be seen.

While Firmino might have started all five of his side’s friendlies, six of their leading players, including Al-Buraikan and Riyad Mahrez (their joint-leading goalscorers) are currently away on Africa Cup of Nations or Asian Cup duty. Meanwhile, manager Matthias Jaissle has also tended to rotate the rest of his big-name overseas players between starting and coming on at half-time.

In contrast to the Brazilian, Allan Saint-Maximin and Gabri Veiga started two friendlies apiece, while Roger Ibanez started one. However, all four were named in the starting XI vs Al-Nasr. Ezgjan Alioski has also started two friendlies despite being unregistered for the first half of the season.

Al-Ahli currently have no further friendlies scheduled prior to their Saudi Pro League return against Al Akhdoud on February 16, by which point both Al-Buraikan and Mahrez’s international exploits will long since have finished.

It remains to be seen if Firmino’s mid-season showings signify an upturn in fortunes in the absence of his fellow forwards following a difficult first half of the season. But regardless of where the former Reds man lies in Al-Ahli’s pecking order, he will remain in Saudi Arabia until at least the end of the season.

With Al-Ahli finishing the first half of the campaign in fine form at least, the Brazilian, who will be desperate to end his lengthy goalscoring drought when the Saudi season resumes, will now look to succeed where Henderson failed. If unsuccessful, he will remain just another player to struggle after leaving Liverpool behind, while transfer speculation regarding Firmino’s future will soon rear its head once more.

Micky Van de Ven says Liverpool have a defender who’s even faster than he is

Micky Van de Ven is one of the fastest defenders in the Premier League.

The Dutchman is absolutely rapid. His immense stride length allows him to cover ground incredibly quickly, and we can’t remember a single striker outpacing the defender this season.

Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Van de Ven has been comparing his pace to some of his peers, and he’s made an interesting claim about Virgil van Dijk’s pace.

Van de Ven was playing a game of higher or lower in terms of his pace stats on the new EA FC game, and he actually stated that Virgil van Dijk may be faster than he is.

Van Dijk quicker than Van de Ven
The Tottenham defender gave his verdict on the Liverpool star.

“You are rated as 85 pace, We’re going to play a game of higher or lower in terms of pace on FC24,” Van de Ven was told.

“Pedro Porro?” Van de Ven was asked

“I’m faster,” Van de Ven said.

“Virgil van Dijk?” Van de Ven was asked.

“I would say he’s higher,” Van de Ven responded

Pep Lijnders ready to become manager as Liverpool search for new boss
Pep Lijnders speaks about wanting to become a manager
Liverpool assistant will leave Anfield when Jurgen Klopp does
Dutchman has been linked with the job his current boss will vacate

By Jamie Spencer | 3:25 PM GMT

Pep Lijnders is ready to step up from assistant role / BSR Agency/GettyImages
Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders is ready to become a head coach in his own right when both he and Jurgen Klopp leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Lijnders and fellow senior coaches Peter Krawietz and Vitor Matos will follow Klopp out of the club come summer, giving Liverpool a clean break for the future.

Rather than stay at Liverpool as an assistant to whoever the new boss will be, Lijnders believes the time is right to spread his own wings as a manager instead.

“I owe this club everything. They don’t owe me anything, to be honest,” he told LiverpoolFC.com.

“It’s ten years full of dedication. I always said I will finish with Jurgen; the moment I will not assist anyone else, that’s the moment I will go and I will manage.

“That was always the case. So when we spoke, it was clear for me: OK, then I go and manage, and we end this project together [that] we started.”

Lijnders has worked alongside Jurgen Klopp for years / Craig Mercer/MB Media/GettyImages
Lijnders has been linked with the top job at Liverpool alongside the likes of Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim, but there are no decisions yet as to where he might end up.

“Probably in a few months’ time I will sit down with my [agent], now is not the time, but then I will see what kind of options do I have, which club really wants [me] and in that moment I will make a decision that is for me good,” he explained.

Lijnders has occasionally faced the media on behalf of Klopp during his time at Liverpool and has a prominent role in a variety of tasks usually the domain of a head coach or manager, so it stands to reason that he is well equipped to lead a team of his own.

“The way [Klopp] gives me the freedom to lead the team, to design the training, to make tactical decisions, that says everything, no? It’s sad that we go but I’m excited [for] what’s ahead. But this season didn’t end yet,” Lijnders said.

Having started his coaching career at PSV Eindhoven while still a teenager and later working under a succession of managers at Porto, the 41-year-old Dutchman first joined Liverpool back in 2014 when Brendan Rodgers was in charge. He briefly left Merseyside in 2018 to become head coach of second tier NEC Nijmegen in his homeland, but returned to Liverpool just six months later.

I believe a potential leak could have triggered Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool exit announcement
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced a week ago that he would be leaving Anfield at the end of the season

Former Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister believes the possibility of a leak could have triggered Jurgen Klopp’s leaving announcement earlier than expected.

The Reds’ boss stunned the football world last week when he announced he would be stepping down as manager of the club at the end of the season. Explaining his decision, Klopp said he was running out of energy but insisted he would be fine for the remainder of the campaign.

Klopp’s bombshell announcement has been met with sadness by the Liverpool faithful as they come to terms with the German’s tenure coming to an end. Some people believe the timing of the statement is strange; however, McAllister has a theory as to why the German chose last week to break the news.

Jurgen Klopp gives worrying Darwin Nunez news with Liverpool injury update
“Jurgen had let the owners know in November so they’ve done amazingly well to keep it under wraps for this long. Part of me thinks the announcement has been made now because it might have been about to get leaked.

“The way he spoke was very sincere and very heartfelt. He’s been at Liverpool for nine years, managing the expectations of the fans and doing what he has to in order to be a success – he’s done an amazing job.”

Paying further tribute to Klopp, McAllister continued: “Klopp and Liverpool are a perfect match. His style of play is always on the front foot and that is what the fans demand.

“They want to see players playing for the badge and he brings that. He’s got massive character and he also knows how to recruit.

“It takes a lot to build a good team and not only has he built one fantastic team, there’s also the one he’s built now. When you look at them this season, anything could happen. They’ve totally refreshed the midfield and are still heavily involved in all four major competitions.”

Jurgen Klopp hails ‘complete package’ Diogo Jota after impressive recent displays

Jurgen Klopp has hailed the impact of “complete package” Diogo Jota, who continues to shine despite the “crazy” amount of knocks he gets during matches.

Diogo Jota had been sidelined for around a month earlier this season after picking up an injury in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City back in November, but has quickly found his feet again after returning to the team on Boxing Day.

The Portuguese netted just minutes after coming on against Burnley in his first game back and has added another four goals and three assists since the trip to Turf Moor.

Most recently, Jota netted the opener in Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Chelsea on Wednesday, powering through two centre-backs before producing a composed finish from close range.

Another impressive display midweek, Klopp was quick to praise the 27-year-old in his pre-match press conference before the Arsenal game, labelling him the “complete package” despite his rough treatment from opposition defenders.

“He just has it. He’s a complete package,” said the German. “With, and he knows that, everyone [knows] that, with a few injuries at the wrong time – a few too many as well, like unlucky, wow.

“Diogo gets, in each game, knocks like crazy. If I go through the lists of medical reports I got over the years since Diogo is here, he’s in each and every one of them.

“And not as ‘injured’, just as ‘has a bruise’, ‘has a knock’, ‘has that’, ‘has that’. All after each game. So he really gets it. And on top of that, a couple of times he was out for absolutely too long, otherwise his numbers would look completely different.

Klopp added: “He was in a really good shape before he got injured, came back, was in a good shape.

“You can see he is literally flying in the moment, everything looks light, looks fresh, looks explosive, and on top of that, as he always was, an extremely smart footballer.”

Jota will be hoping to continue his two-game goalscoring streak against Arsenal on Sunday, one of his favourite opponents. The sharpshooter has netted eight goals in 14 appearances against the Gunners, only having scored more against Leicester City (nine in 13 matches).

With Mohamed Salah out injured and Darwin Nunez an injury doubt for the trip to north London, even more goalscoring burden will fall on Jota’s shoulders.
