Marcus Rashford’s kind gesture to gift one fan tickets to watch him backfired – when he served up a horror show in a defeat to Fulham.
Rashford was savaged for his performance in a 2-1 loss against Fulham as the Cottagers secured their first away win against Manchester United since October 2003.
The England star played the full 90 minutes at Old Trafford but was branded ‘woeful’ and a ‘waster’ by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook after failing to impose himself.
Rashford failed to score or assist while managing just one shot and having 27 touches during an anonymous showing for Erik ten Hag.
The 26-year-old lost possession for United nine times but also came under fire for his work off-the-ball, making zero tackles as well.
Rashford’s horror showing is all the more humiliating considering one of the Red Devils fans in attendance was his personally invited guest.
The forward had run a competition on his social media earlier this month where he rewarded one of his followers who had guessed the name of the 1,000-piece Lion King jigsaw he was doing with two tickets to the Fulham game.
The thought-to-be-lucky winner was an influencer named UTDTrey, a United fan and previous Rashford critic with over a million followers.
Having taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, before kick-off to thank Rashford for his view from the Old Trafford stands, Trey then watched his beloved team concede a stoppage-time winner to Fulham.
He wrote: “Of course we lose to a 97th-minute winner when I come to Old Trafford for the first time. I’m tired man.”
He later added: “First loss in 2024 when I come around. These mfs making me look bad man.”
In an ironic twist of fate, Trey, whose X timeline shows him publicly support Nigeria, witnessed Nigeria internationals Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi score the goals for Fulham to down United.
He posted: “Broke my heart in the AFCON final and broke my heart again today.”
Man United meanwhile were savaged by Gabby Agbonlahor as they missed the chance to go level on points with Tottenham in fifth.
He told talkSPORT: “Today was justice.
“United have been getting away with bad performances and still somehow winning games, but today they got exactly what they deserved.
“Manchester United today were a disgrace to that football club.”
