Changes coming for United…
67′ Manchester City 1-1 Manchester United
Interesting! The 19-year-old defender Willy Kambwala is being prepared to come on.
Just playing opposite hotshot Erling Haaland.
Nothing too challenging for the young lad!

Andre Onana in pain?
64′ Manchester City 1-1 Manchester United
Hmm, United goalkeeper Andre Onana races off his line to pouch a loose ball and goes down immediately with cramp.
The physio is on. Does that mean he has to go off the pitch? I don’t think so. Both teams use the opportunity to take on some fluids.
Onana may just be time-wasting.

Guardiola on his haunches
63′ Manchester City 1-1 Manchester United
City boss Pep Guardiola is a picture of pain, a tableau of anxiety.
His squats down on his haunches, brow furrowed, hand near-permanently affixed to forehead.
He’ll be happier now it’s 1-1, not that you’d have known it from looking at him!

Majestic from Foden
He might have missed a bit of a sitter earlier but it won’t matter too much if things keep going like that for Foden. Majestic.
And Guardiola shuffles things by bringing on Alvarez for Doku, who struggled. That seems to have been planned before the equaliser as Guardiola had already told Alvarez to step up his warm-up.
Bernardo Silva moves out to the left hand side.

Home fans back in it

Lindelof let Foden inside onto his stronger foot to shoot as he scored City’s spectacular equaliser.
The home fans are finally roused, and one throws a blue flare into Onana’s area.

Foden takes matter into his own hands

Another wonder strike. Foden dismissing the attempts to prise United’s defence apart with passes by just smacking the ball really hard.
Ten Hag exploded on the touchline. He’d already thrown a bottle of water down when Rashford failed to get a foul from Walker.

Here come City
Getty Images
Here we go! It’s been coming from City. Now the match really starts.
Notice the mentality of Haaland urging Foden to get back and restart the game rather than continuing to celebrate. His team-mates didn’t join him in the corner. They’re focussed on something else.
This is ominous for United. Rashford hasn’t done anything since the goal and his staying on the floor complaining about a foul that never came before the goal was scored says a lot about where his head is at.

How Foden levelled things up

58′ Manchester City 1-1 Manchester United
Rodri worked it out to the right hand side, where Foden faced up against auxiliary left back Victor Lindelof.
Foden stood him up, cut inside with blistering acceleration, took a touch or two to create space for himself and with the Swede left trailing in his wake, unleashed a powerful angular driving effort that flew into the top-left corner past Onana’s desperate dive.
The same corner Rashford scored in! And it’s another wonderful finish to decorate this thrilling game.

GOOOOAAALLL! What a strike from Phil Foden!
57′ Manchester City 1-1 Manchester United
That’s a brilliant finish from Phil Foden! And City are level!
Manchester United are furious after what they felt was a free kick for a perceived foul on Marcus Rashford at the other end.
United manager Erik ten Hag has been booked for his protests! And coach Steve McClaren came out to speak to fourth official Darren England for pretty much the first time this match.

Walker shrugs off Rashford
56′ Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United
That’s a good chance for United! They counter-attack with pace and purpose, committing men forward.
It’s played through to Rashford, who is semi-tugged back by Kyle Walker.
They want a free-kick but nothing doing. City play on… controversy if something happens now?

No changes yet for City
55′ Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United
Ten minutes into the second half and still no change for Pep Guardiola.
One imagines they’ll be forthcoming soon if it stays at 0-0.
Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Oscar Bobb and Julian Alvarez offer attacking options on the bench.

Classy touch from Casemiro
52′ Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United
Oh, that’s nice from Casemiro. United look under pressure as they shovel it from Varane to Lindelof to Onana. The goalkeeper, being pressed, pulls off a risky slide-rule pass bisecting his box to Casemiro.
There’s a moment’s hesitation between Casemiro and Varane, both leaving it for each other, allowing Bernardo Silva to get a sniff of winning the ball.
But Casemiro recovers to nutmeg the Portuguese cleverly. Lovely touch. He might be a defensive midfielder, but he’s still Brazilian!

Good block from Evans
49′ Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United
Jonny Evans, 36, being released by relegated Leicester and now starting twice for United in the derby against City has been a rod with which to beat United and their recruitment.
But he’s been solid today, fair play, and again did really well to block Erling Haaland there.
Moments later, Onana does really well to palm Jeremy Doku’s deflected deep cross from the left away from danger as Foden lurked behind him.
There was a brief VAR check, I think for Haaland being pulled, but nothing doing.

Pep and the fourth official
Getty Images
Has everybody seen Pep Guardiola’s interaction with the fourth official? It was just as City were about to take a corner at the very end of stoppage time and I briefly wondered if he had spotted another Jude Bellingham scenario unfolding.
But City had enough seconds to take it and — had they got somebody on the end of it — score. Alas.
So no idea what Guardiola’s specific complaint was, but he has been on the officials’ case about time-wasting all half. And his own players’ cases, of course.

Stones down injured
46′ Manchester City 0-1 Manchester United
The bad news continues for City. John Stones is down clutching his left foot in pain.
His hands are on his head after it looked like he jarred his ankle in an aerial challenge with Scott McTominay.
But his team-mates wave the physio away. He’s back up now and OK to play on, albeit jogging a little gingerly.

Guardiola is scratching his head nervously.
Can City finally find the goal they crave?

United have something to fight for
Pep was getting animated on the touchline in the first half, but he’s always like that! He’ll be giving a “Remember who you are and remember who United are” speech right about now.
Ten Hag can’t ask for any more than for United to keep doing what they’re doing. Even if City score United are still in it and have something to fight for. City will need to come out hard and fast in the second half.

City need to be wary of United counters
City did pretty well in that half. They have not been able to force the ball over the line, and when Erling Haaland misses a genuine sitter like that you start to feel they never will, but if the second half follows the same pattern then we could be looking at a very handy City victory.
However, for that to happen they need to keep a lid on these United breaks, because surely (surely?!) one or two of these chances will find their way in?

City will break through at some point at this rate
Getty Images
City have taken control of the game but will be the more frustrated dressing room with the chances they missed.
But they have big-game players and they’ve been getting chances. United won’t believe their luck, but they will need more than luck to keep City at bay any further.
