Manchester City have reportedly got their eyes on signing a player from the Bundesliga for a cut-price fee this summer. The Manchester club signed Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig during the precious summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £77m.

Now that another summer transfer period is on the horizon, the Citizens have identified another figure currently making a name for himself in Germany they could make a move for over the coming weeks and months, but for potentially a lot less money than Gvardiol cost.

City scouts identify Bundesliga goalkeeper for summer transfer move

According to a recent report from Bild (via Fussball Transfers), City’s scouts have been watching Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer and have told Pep Guardiola about him as a credible option for the Manchester club to sign this summer.

While the report also says that the shot-stopper has a release clause in his current contract, it doesn’t specify what that figure is, although previous reports have claimed the German club value Zetterer at £5m.

Since joining Bremen back in the 2015 January transfer window, the 28-year-old has completed loan spells at SK Austria Klagenfurt and a two-year loan spell with PEC Zwolle between 2019 and 2021.

In 41 senior appearances for his current side, the German has kept 10 clean sheets and conceded 59 goals along the way.

Having played in 27 Bundesliga games this season, Zetterer faced 128 shots on target and made 92 saves, leaving him with the fourth-highest save percentage (74.2%) in the entire league.

In addition to that, the goalkeeper racked up the second-highest percentage of completed passes over 40 yards in the Bundesliga, accurately completing 145 of the 330 long passes he attempted throughout the campaign.

With all of that in mind, in addition to the fact that there are currently some questions over the futures of Ederson and Stefan Ortega, it’s easy to see why City have got Zetterer on their radar ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Moving forward, if the Citizens find themselves in need of adding a new goalkeeper to their ranks for next season, securing a deal for the Bremen star could be a clever move for them to make.
