The Kentucky Wildcats have wrapped up their summer basketball practice period, though they did so with Koby Brea barely seeing action. That’s because Brea has had his workload managed while recovering from injuries suffered at Dayton.
After all, Brea’s college career nearly got derailed by injuries before he rebounded to be one of the best shooters in college basketball last season. In 2023, he had rods put in both lower legs to help heal stress fractures in his tibias, but still returned to play last season,
However, Brea had to manage his workload while still recovering from the surgery,
“A big part of why I backed out of the draft and everything and didn’t do a lot of my workouts was because I just wanted to make sure that I was completely healthy going into this new year,” Brea said in a recent interview with local media. “It was kind of something that my agent and I talked about after the season. I wasn’t feeling too great. The conversations with my agent and my family were just like, ‘Let’s take a step back so we can take a couple of steps forward later on.’
Brea was limited in summer workouts with Kentucky, but thankfully, it sounds like he’s good to go next season.
“We just took some time off to finally heal from my previous injury, and I feel a lot better now, so I’m really glad that I did that,” he said.
If he can stay healthy, Brea figures to once again be among college basketball’s best 3-point shooters.
