Liverpool broadcast news, rumours, gossip and speculation including updates on Kylian Mbappe, Mason Mount, Nicolo Barella, Thiago Alcantara and Rafael Leao
Virgil van Dijk celebrated last night after being voted into the FIFA FIFPRO Best Awards Men’s World XI. It might be the only thing Liverpool win all season, but the Dutchman will.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to shake up his squad this summer and that includes a few departures. Reports in Europe suggest Thiago Alcantara could be sold to AC Milan and Real Madrid are interested in Stefan Bajcetic. Would Klopp let either player go at the end of the season? We also have Klopp’s pre-match press conference today as Liverpool prepare to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Wednesday night. Hopefully there will be some good news about Luis Diaz’s fitness.
Update from Kylian Mbappé
Kylian Mbappe could try to leave PSG this summer, as L’Equipe recently claimed, but it might not be Real Madrid where the French superstar will end up.
Mbappe came close to joining Madrid in 2021 but shocked everyone by signing a short-term contract to stay in Paris. It’s almost certain that the Spanish champions will eventually come back for the Frenchman but it could be against his mother’s wishes. Mbappe’s mother revealed her admiration for Liverpool in an interview with the Telegraph last summer, when she also admitted that she met with the Reds to discuss her son’s future when he was a Monaco player.
Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse told Ladbrokes FanZone: “I really want to see Kylian Mbappé at Liverpool. I would love to see him at Anfield. In this team he would do so much damage. I know his mother loves Liverpool but the boy loves the Real Madrid so who knows where it will end up. “But I want to dream of seeing him at Liverpool… and they say mothers are never wrong, so maybe we’ll see him in a Liverpool shirt soon!”
Wolves boss on Liverpool challenge
Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has spoken of the challenge of facing Liverpool when the two sides meet at Anfield tomorrow night.
“They play the same way at home or away but Anfield’s difficulties are clear, it’s a stadium where they push a lot. I saw in the last game against Real Madrid there, I thought they played a fantastic first half in my opinion and deserved a lot more, but that’s football.
“I’m sure tomorrow we will find a good team and a good environment and we have to be ready. We will try to play the same way, obviously it’s not like at home, but we will try.”
Wolves… Again!
Tomorrow’s game between Liverpool and Wolves will be the teams’ fourth meeting in 11 games! The two met in the FA Cup third round and a draw at Anfield resulted in a replay which the Reds won.
Wolves then hammered Liverpool 3-0 in the league at Molineux and now the two meet tomorrow night on Merseyside.
Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate are set to return as three Liverpool players are out for Wolves
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez could both be back for Liverpool against Wolves on Wednesday night.
The Frenchman has been injury-free since sustaining a hamstring injury in the FA Cup against Brighton & Hove Albion last month, but returned to team training last week. Meanwhile, the Uruguayan missed the Reds’ 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace due to the shoulder injury he picked up at Newcastle United the previous weekend.
And while Klopp hasn’t confirmed either will feature against Wolves, he did reveal the two trained as usual ahead of Wednesday night’s game.
“Ibou trained normally yesterday, just like Darwin,” the German told reporters today. “Now we have to see how he (reacts), especially I think for Ibou.
“He hasn’t had any problems since his injury, we just wanted to give him more training time before involving him again. It should be fine now.
Liverpool target Independiente Santa Fe star
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Liverpool are targeting Independiente Santa Fe defender Kevin Mantilla and are ‘ready’ to make an offer.
The 19-year-old is seen as a talented youngster in South America and the Reds are set to face Torino PAOK and FC Porto for Mantilla.
The report adds: “Jurgen Klopp’s side are ‘ready’ to offer €4m to secure the defender’s signature, but Independiente Santa Fe are ‘demanding more’.”
Liverpool ‘excited’ by Mason Mount as Chelsea plot makeover
Liverpool remain ‘sharp’ on Chelsea and England star Mason Mount and could make a move for the midfielder if Chelsea try to balance the books this summer.
After a £600million-plus spending spree under new owner Todd Boehly, Graham Potter has over 25 first-team players and could be forced to bid farewell to a large number over the summer for comply with the strict rules of financial fair play.
The Londoners are currently closer to the relegation zone than Champions League places and so could be forced to say goodbye to some stars if they miss European football finances. John Cross wrote in the Mirror: “Liverpool are keen on England’s Star Mount as Jurgen Klopp plans a major squad overhaul at Anfield this summer. Mount, 24, will have no shortage of candidates but Liverpool appear to be in pole position and while Chelsea haven’t given up on keeping him, they may struggle to match salaries on offer elsewhere.
