5th round of FA Cup draw: Manchester City and Liverpool finds out opponents
English clubs found out who their opponents were in the FA Cup fifth round draw.
The team that eliminated Everton from the competition, Luton Town, defeated the defending champions, Manchester City, 2-1 at Goodison Park.
In the fourth round, Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 thanks to a controversial Nathan Ake late winner.
If Liverpool wins at Anfield today, they will play either Watford or Southampton. Liverpool is now leading 3-1 over Norwich City.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will square off with either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest if the Red Devils emerge victorious later against League Two outfit Newport County.
Bristol and Forest are set for a replay after their previous game went goalless.
Maidstone United pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the FA Cup by defeating Ipswich Town 2-1 at Portman Road.
The National League South team’s reward will be a meeting with the winner of Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry City replay.
Elsewhere, Chelsea will face Leeds United or Plymouth Argyle should they beat Aston Villa in February.
Newcastle United secured a laboured 1-0 victory over Fulham in the previous round, and now they are set for a fixture against the winner of the Blackburn Rovers vs Wrexham game.
Brighton & Hove Albion will be in contention with Wolverhampton Wanderers following the Seagulls’ 5-2 success against Sheffield United.
