‘It happens a lot’ – Jamie Carragher sheds light on Liverpool defender after defeat to Man City

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has questioned a Liverpool player’s defense following yesterday’s brutal 4-1 loss to Manchester City, saying “a lot is going on”.

Liverpool’s first game since March 15 did not end as many had hoped. In fact, it turned into a nightmare for the Reds.

With a 1-0 lead against Manchester City, the reigning league champions turned the tide, played some exciting stuff and ended up easily beating Liverpool 4-1.

Some of Liverpool’s defenders were questionable and club legend Jamie Carragher took to Twitter to express his frustration, particularly at left-back Andy Robertson. “Andy Robertson goes behind in midfield and leaves his man, it happens a lot (final CL). You can’t always press!” Carragher posted on Twitter showing his frustration.

Jürgen Klopp later commented on Liverpool’s defense in the aftermath of the defeat, saying: “So 1-1. That’s fine, it’s a base. You come out of half-time and there’s an open ball in midfield. “We don’t even have a challenge and they pass the ball. We are too involved with the last line. From there, City did well again. You have to defend City when you get the chance.

“If you’re too deep, too passive, whatever, they’ll use it right away. It’s 2-1. 3-1, pft, very fast after.

“As I remember it, I’ll have to look back, obviously, we have a three or four to one situation against Jack, but in the end nobody has a challenge and the ball goes back into the box. They can finish and get the rebound.

“And then you saw what happened. We weren’t there anymore. We were wide open. We were too passive, too deep, too far from everything,” she added.

Liverpool’s next game is against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
