We have to look in the mirror’: Mikel Arteta speak of Liverpool’s result and about Anfield atmosphere

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Mikel Arteta said: “If you give up at the end, it’s always two points lost and you suffer. You rely on certain moments, but the feeling is, ‘Argh, we should have done it .’

“But to be fair to ourselves, they had four great chances that they could have scored and they missed the penalty. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror, we should have done a lot better in the second half. It was great intense game.”
“We started exceptionally well, dominated, got the game where we wanted, scored the first goal, played, scored the second goal and it was time to end the game. In the end, we gave them hope before half-time.

“We conceded the goal and they inspired some confidence in this special stadium and the second half was a different story. It’s not how we started because I think we started very well. in the first moments, but we didn’t continue playing.” .
“We gave away every ball, especially in the dangerous areas where we left space and great moments of transition. When that happens, it’s chaos, there are a lot of balls in the box, it’s It’s hard to get out of it and you suffer.”

Arsenal had to settle for just one point on Sunday, despite trailing Liverpool 2-0 in what could be a title clash at Anfield. Manchester City are now five points behind the Gunners in the Premier League standings while retaining an extra game in hand.

‘Anfield atmosphere’: Mikel Arteta notes what he saw from Liverpool supporters in 2-2 Arsenal draw

Arsenal coach has said the Anfield atmosphere played a role in Arsenal throwing away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2, with Liverpool supporters in fine voice against the Gunners this weekend.

Speaking to the press, the former Manchester City coach noted how good Liverpool fans were as the Reds fought from behind to salvage a draw against Arsenal, with Aaron Ramsdale having to make two world-class saves at the death to keep the score at 2-2.

The result could go a long way in the Premier League title race, with Arsenal now just six points ahead of City with Pep Guardiola’s side having a game in hand over the Gunners, with the two set to meet at the Etihad Stadium at the end of this month.

Indeed, a win would have been perfect for Arsenal. Yet according to Arteta, the Anfield crowd wouldn’t have allowed it, with the 41-year-old saying: “It was a super intense match. We started the game exceptionally well and dominated, scored a goal and continued to play the way we wanted to and scored again, and that was the moment to kill the game.”

The Arsenal manager later added: “Just before half-time we conceded a goal and Liverpool generated some belief. This is a special atmosphere and stadium and the second half was a very different story.”

Premier League titles can be won or lost in a single moment, and for Arteta, the Arsenal man can be forgiven for thinking that his side’s collapse against Liverpool could be a moment later down the line that will be pinned on as the day the Gunners lost out on the Premier League title.

Whilst there are still many games to go, it seems unlikely that Arsenal will match City’s record in the coming weeks as well as beat the Manchester giants at the Etihad. And for Arteta, dropping points at Anfield could go down as the moment everything went wrong for the north London side.

Do you think Arsenal’s coach is speaking with respect after being humbled at Anfield while he should be  putting up a different tone after the draw?
