Jürgen Klopp faces Darwin Nunez’s decision as Liverpool have made another decision midfield

Jürgen Klopp faces Darwin Nunez’s decision as Liverpool have made another decision midfield

Liverpool will face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, with Jurgen Klopp facing some selection questions

Liverpool ended their goalless run in emphatic style with a record-breaking game at Leeds United on Monday.

The Reds scored the goals in a 6-1 win, their biggest win in history against the Yorkshire side at Elland Road. Liverpool will now be looking to boost their hopes of moving up to the Premier League when they host struggling Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

And here we look forward to the changes Jurgen Klopp could make when his team enters the game.

A need to encourage consistency and an impressive second-half performance against Arsenal saw Klopp remain in the same starting line-up for the last two games. So it would be surprising if a lot changed for the weekend, with the rotation coming more after the first of five games in 15 days comes against Forest.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ‘new’ role at reverse right-back makes him a favorite to start. Joe Gomez, who was not on the bench at Leeds, and James Milner are other options at right-back with Calvin Ramsay injured, while Andy Robertson is again the first choice at left-back ahead of Kostas Tsimikas.

The same goes for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in central defense. Joel Matip, Gomez and Nat Phillips are the other senior alternatives. Alisson Becker is the first goalkeeper of Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian.

The emergence of Curtis Jones as a regular starter on the left side of midfield has been one of the most intriguing aspects of Klopp’s squads of late.

Jones claimed an assist against Leeds and gained much more confidence when he stepped up in the second half. However, the return to form of Thiago Alcantara has given Liverpool an option on the position.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have both restarted, with the pair likely to contend for the starring role if Klopp wants to switch engine rooms this weekend. Harvey Elliott, who has featured in every game this season, hasn’t kicked a ball in his last three, while Milner has started one Premier League game since January. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Arthur Melo – all due to leave in the summer – failed to make the bench on Monday and Stefan Bajcetic is injured.

    Diaz decision

The return of Luis Diaz after a six-month absence has given Klopp a team scratcher in attack, although it seems unlikely the Colombian will get another start.

Diogo Jota ended his long scoring drought with a brace against Leeds after retaining his starting role on the left, but will come under pressure from Darwin Nunez, who also came off the bench to score.

Cody Gakpo and Roberto Firmino have each scored in the last two weeks and are the options in between. Completing another 30-game season, Mohamed Salah is the favorite to stay on the right flank. Meanwhile, the weakest Fabio Carvalho has played two minutes in the top flight since the World Cup.
