Jurgen Klopp begs Liverpool fans to stop one key thing until after their win as he gave his reasons
Jurgen Klopp has pleaded with Liverpool fans to stop singing his folk song during matches.
“I’m so Glad (That Jurgen is a Red)”, sung to the tune of The Beatles’ “I Feel Fine”, became a terrace favorite last season as the Reds battled it out for an unprecedented quadruple, and it has remained a constant at Liverpool matches ever since.
The song was sung often again as the Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on Sunday. But after watching his side squander a 3-0 lead, only to score a last gasp winner through Diogo Jota, Klopp disagreed with the chant that had rang before his side’s initial slump.
“I have to say now, I love them all, but my song, don’t sing it!” he said after the game. “If you want to sing it, sing it after the game in the bars, wherever you are.
“Because it’s always like it’s the end of the game. We lead 3:0 and I hear ‘I’m so happy that Jürgen is a Red’. It’s not over!
“It would be really nice if you could save it for later and now it’s like 4-3, everyone is happy and we had in the last part of the match the atmosphere was like an explosion that nobody will forget. never this game. Let’s go.”
While Klopp was delighted with his side’s ‘extraordinary’ start as they trailed 3-0 after just 15 minutes, he was disappointed with how Liverpool lost control of the game to Spurs. “The start to the game was once again absolutely brilliant, it was definitely one of the best we’ve played this season,” he said. the goals and the way we played attacking and defending were absolutely brilliant.
“Then the problem is to take a 3-0 lead so early. We’re not the first team to misunderstand that. It shouldn’t have happened, but it did.”
“Not right away, but Tottenham’s first goal is the first time we don’t defend well and we’re not under counter pressure, that’s why we end up with a long ball and it’s not offside. “Virgil slips, it can happen, but we shouldn’t have such a situation. They score and are very good in these situations.”
“At half-time I said good things to the lads, but obviously they have pace because if we play like we started the game, they have no way to really defend us.
“It’s difficult with the five behind and they are flexible, but unfortunately we weren’t able to pick up the pace anymore. It wasn’t bad, more of a balanced game than it should have been. We shouldn’t have admitted.”
He continued: “Thanks to Tottenham they have a goal, they hit the bar. It’s hectic when you create those situations and difficult to deal with.
“The team that is 3-1 behind starts to believe more and the team that is 3-1 starts to have a little doubt and then suddenly the game is open.
“Then in the second and last minute they more or less score the free kick to the side, [the referee] misses a foul on Mo, their defender (Ben Davies) slips but we’re not allowed to continue. There has the fault, a free kick enters and it is a goal. “All the Tottenham strikers were on the pitch, we could have defended better. It’s really difficult, the ball is in the air and it’s chaotic to sort things out.
“So it’s 3-3 and it doesn’t feel good, but then Diogo had another idea and finished it for us. That’s the best part of the whole afternoon.
“You could see the 3-0 around and I was a million times super positive of the atmosphere and it was great, but the 3-0 wasn’t the result of a sensational atmosphere. Almost everyone got it wrong. All.
“After the 3:1 the mood was better. Between 3-0 and 3-1 it was: ‘Sorry, what’s going on?’ Nobody knew.”
