Power Rankings: Find Out  The Best Teams in Europe – Week 33

    After a week where:

    – Erling Haaland broke another record.
    – Arsenal have finally won another game.
    – Borussia Dortmund made a Borussia Dortmund (which is a bad thing).
90 minutes Sean Walsh and Jack Gallagher have reunited to record the fourth episode of our new podcast series ‘Definitive European Power Rankings’.
Here are their picks for the top 10 best teams in Europe right now. 10. Marseille (new entry)

Marseille are now just five points behind Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1 for two reasons:

    10. PSG

Marseille are unbeaten in their last eight league games. Jack: “I think this is the first time for Marseille in the Power Rankings.”

    9. Real Sociedad (new entry)

David Silva, despite being 10,000 years old, gave his all against Real Madrid recently.
With a stormy performance, Silva helped Real Socieded to victory which all but ensured them a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Sean: “The real Sociedad was full of energy, but the one who led the charge and made them work was David Silva. He transformed Toni Kroos.”

    8. Arsenal

The Gunners were in desperate need of a win after going four games without one this week.
Luckily for Mikel Arteta and company, the fixture list was as kind as it gets, serving up a dismal Chelsea side to eliminate.
Sean: “Arsenal at least did their job, if they hadn’t beaten Chelsea their season could have gone downhill, become rather harsh and toxic”.

    7. Atletico Madrid (return)

When was the last time Diego Simeone’s team scored 10 goals in two games?
Probably never. That was until last week, Atleti overtook Real Valladolid and Cadiz by five points to leapfrog rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga table. Good.
Jack: “Matt Doherty has arrived – four minutes of football and a WhoScored rating of 5.98, which I like to think is out of six.”

    6. AC Milan (minus 4)

After two brilliant weeks, the Milan season has taken a rather worrying turn in recent days.
Two draws from two games mean I Rossoneri are knocked out of the Serie A top 4. Jack: “We were quite impressed with their performance at AS Roma and then they followed that up with a draw against Cremonense, just two points against them all season.”

    5. Borussia Dortmund (2 minus)

Second deficit this week after a rather disastrous 1-1 draw against Bochum which saw BVB lose their top spot in the Bundesliga.
However, they were quite unfortunate as they faced what was for all time terrible refereeing during the game.
Sean: “Dortmund should have gotten a stone’s throw in stoppage time… and the DFB refereeing committee wrote to them that it was a mistake. It could cost her the title.”

    4. Newcastle United (plus 1)

The Magpies have continued to show they’re serious in recent weeks, and that’s largely thanks to Callum Wilson’s wonderful form.
The striker has scored five goals in his last three games as Newcastle have taken third place in the Premier League table.
Jack: “They only beat Southampton, it’s not that impressive, but it looks like it’s a game you could go wrong in, like a lot of other top six teams have.”

    3. Barcelona (return)

Back in the standings and on the verge of securing their first La Liga title in four years.
Barcelona have simply done the job in recent weeks against teams they should beat, and if they do the same in their next match, they will be Spanish champions again. Sean: “They played with Real Betis, they were able to bring in Lamine Yamal as their youngest player in La Liga.”

    2. Inter (up to 5)

Inter are finally starting to show the form that has taken them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and the final of the Coppa Italia in Serie A, winning their last three games in a row.
The most impressive victory of this series was the comeback win against second-placed Lazio at the San Siro.
Jack: “They’re getting in shape at just the right time.”

    1.Manchester City (-)

Manchester City are obviously still number one. The Citizens have won their last eight Premier League games in a spin, knocked Arsenal out of first place, are in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup final.
    They are just too good.
Jack: “If Man City win the treble, will there be a world where Pep Guardiola will walk?”
