Man Utd takeover still ongoing: Ratcliffe awaits Glazer decision after crucial win over Bournemouth
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani waits to see if his latest effort to defeat Sir Jim Ratcliffe and take control of Manchester United succeeds after a 1-0 win over Bournemouth
The Manchester United takeover process is still ongoing – however, for fans it looks like closure is finally approaching.
To recap, it was as early as November 22 that the Glazers announced they were “reviewing strategic alternatives” and the third and final deadline was April 28 – Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have since made a number of offers.
Sir Jim looked like the favourite, but there was another big twist this week when Sheikh Jassim made a final late bid to convince the Glazers.
With things remaining undecided off the pitch, United took a crucial step this afternoon. Casemiro’s first-half goal was enough for Erik ten Hag’s side to win 1-0 at Bournemouth. A place in the top four is not yet assured thanks to Roberto Firmino’s late equalizer for Liverpool against Aston Villa, but United need just one point from their last two games to secure it.
Glaser has set a new deadline
The Glazers are expected to review their options later this month to dispel uncertainty over a potential Manchester United takeover.
The much-criticized owners had already signaled their willingness to sell the club in a detailed statement in November, but a deal is a long way off. Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe remain among the first to sign a deal at Old Trafford.
The race for the Champions League continues
Manchester United and Newcastle will have to wait to secure a Champions League spot for next season after Roberto Firmino kept Liverpool in contention with a late equalizer against Aston Villa. Liverpool had lobbied United and Newcastle to snap a seven match winning streak but appeared to falter against Aston Villa. United beat Bournemouth 1-0 in a 3pm kick-off on Saturday and looked four points clear of Liverpool going into the Reds’ final game of the season last weekend.
Full time scores

Wolves-Everton 1-1
Full time: Bournemouth 0-1 Man Utd

Man Utd on their way to the Champions League
With Liverpool continuing to lose 1-0 to Aston Villa and Manchester United trailing 1-0 at Bournemouth, the race for the top four appears to be over.
If results hold, Liverpool will be four points behind United and Newcastle with just one game left.
